Paddy Power has named his six best selections for Sunday’s action at Fairyhouse.
Speaking on the latest episode of our twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, the main man is expecting Gordon Elliott to have a successful weekend with both Ballyadam and Envoi Allen taking to the track after promising seasonal reappearances at Down Royal in October.
Gordon Elliott had Quilixios in here, and he obviously didn’t make the final cut but that would have been short-priced favourite. The fact that he’s running ZANAHIYR is interesting. It’s unlikely that Willie Mullins will be unleashing his best juveniles at this time of year, as I think he will wait for a little bit longer. This meeting tends to be a Gordon Elliott meeting so Zanahiyr for me, if that’s the stable choice, but you can’t be confident.
BALLYADAM is one that I’ve put a few quid on for Cheltenham – it’s one of my few ante-post bets so far – so I’m going to stay loyal to him. I’ve drank the Kool-Aid already so fingers crossed he goes and wins, living up to the reputation. Ballyadam for me.
Even yesterday at the entry stage, Gordon Elliott and Joseph O’Brien were the only trainers with any entries at all. It’s no surprise to see the field cut up so much and ENVOI ALLEN will clean this up. Not worth betting on but he will win.
I am going for CAPTAIN CJ here. He definitely wants the trip, and was second to Minella Indo at Navan which is obviously good form. He then won the Ten Up by miles as well. I can forgive last time, where he got pulled up, so I’m hoping he just wasn’t quite ready for his run. He’s gone well here at the track before and I think he’s well handicapped so why not?

I just think HONEYSUCKLE is the best horse in the race. Beacon Edge and Fury Road have been good, but Honeysuckle is very, very good and I think she is going to be very difficult to beat. Ronald Pump and Bacardys were placed in the Stayers’ Hurdle, but it was a weird one at the festival last year. Honeysuckle for me, all the way.
I’m going for CIEL DE NEIGE, who will probably be favourite I imagine. He should have won the Betfair Hurdle when a couple of pounds lower and was joint-favourite for the Country Hurdle only to disappoint there. He stands out as possibly well-handicapped and it’s a big pot, so maybe today will be the day.
