An interesting beginners’ chase where the unbeaten Monkfish has schooled really well over fences. He beat the likes of Fury Road and Latest Exhibition and Thyme Hill (who won the Stayers’ Hurdle at Newbury on Friday) when he won the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle last March. That’s good form. Willie Mullins novice chasers are running well and he’d be another we’d expect to win. He’s schooled really well and hopefully he gets off to a flying start.
Willie also saddles On the Ropes but he would need to improve a lot to beat Monkfish.
My dad saddles Kildorrery and Conor McNamara takes 5lbs off so he carries 10-1. He has to be held up out the back and delivered with a run and that will frustrate punters but it’s the only way to get him to run well. He’s an each-way chance.
Ya Ya Fizz has a big chance but he refused to race the last time, so you’re taking a chance on him doing that again. If he jumps off ok, he’ll be a player.

A Grade 2 mares’ hurdle where Willie Mullins saddles Concertista who won the mares novice hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last season. It’s not a straight forward task as Minella Melody has a fitness advantage over her after her run at Galway last month. The novice Carirgeen Lotus gets a 5lb weight allowance off Concertista as does Queens Brook, though she was a little disappointing when beaten at Down Royal.
Concertista is in very good form but I’m conscious that Minella Melody and Queens Brook both have a fitness edge.
Hook Up only had two runs last season one of which was third to Burning Victory at this track before finishing 11th to her in the Triumph Hurdle. She’s a much stronger mare now, has run well at Fairyhouse before, is in really good form and should handle the ground.
Reality Cheque goes really well at home and I like him a lot. He won a point-to-point last January for Pat Doyle and was bought by Willie Mullins after that. He shows us plenty at home and while the don’t always bring it to the track, I’d be excited about this fella going racing. After all the big races in the UK on Saturday afternoon are over, he could be one to keep on your side if things haven’t gone to plan.
