Horse Racing tips: Jason Weaver’s 6 slick Friday picks at Dundalk & Chelmsford

Time to get some Weaver fever for the Friday night lights.

Jason Weaver Flat Racing

Dundalk 17:30 – Kalu Pande

It takes a bit of digging to come up with this lad as a selection but a closer look at some of his races to date and we can hope for a jolt of improvement on his nursery debut. He’s been going up and down in distance from 7 furlongs to 5 furlongs and now Kalu Pande finds himself over one mile.

He has been handed a favourable draw something that has been lacking so far, The addition of a tongue tie can hopefully get him to run a touch better at rewarding each-way odds.

Chelmsford 18:15 Trinity Girl

Looked a little unlucky on her first try over this trip at Kempton last time. After being a touch keen early on, she fairly rattled home down the outside to finish the race off very strongly, The new trainer Jessica Macey recently had her first winner at Kempton and it’s not very often that they come from the Mark Johnston outfit and improve. Trinity Girl looks relatively unexposed at the distance and possibly more forcing tactics will suit, as the kickback can be quite severe.

Chelmsford 18:45 – Gavi di Gavi

He used to have a problem with being far too keen and eager to get on with things in his races. However, he settles into a rhythm much better now and was travelling powerfully over a furlong shorter last time at Kempton, before petering out late on.

I’m hoping a change of tactics, stepping back up to the long sprint distance of 7 furlongs, can pay off as it sometimes does at this particular synthetic track. I will be keeping a close eye on the way the track is riding in the early part of the card. If front-runners have the advantage this race is not loaded with pace and Gavi di Gavi can take the race by the scruff of the neck.

Dundalk 19:00 – Tide of Time

A tidy little sprinter from the very good Eddie Lynam outfit, Tide of Time steps onto the all-weather for the first time. He is known as a bit of a specialist at Navan and is a multiple six-time winner on the turf. We cannot pigeonhole him as to a particular style of running type and that will give him a little bit of flexibility regarding a tricky stall position in nine. If he gets away on the ‘b’ of the bang and pushes on, Wayne Lordan can sit off the pace if need be. There is no reason he shouldn’t be fully effective at Dundalk.

Dundalk 19:30 Blue Shadow

Has made a very solid start to handicap company since finishing close up at 33/1 and then getting the job done in pretty taking fashion off a rating of just 73. Blue Shadow was raised 5lbs for that effort but it shouldn’t be enough to slow his progression as we can fully expect him to take at least a few more steps up the rungs of the ladder now, going up in distance to two miles. He’s a good trainer in Andrew Oliver, a good jockey in CP Hoban and the horse is in form.

What’s not to like in the lucky last at Fundalk?

Chelmsford 19:45 Fortune Finder

A lightly-raced runner who goes straight into a handicap for Gary Moore, having had one start for John Gosden and one try for the new stable. He has been withdrawn twice recently with a vet’s certificate, so let’s hope he finally gets to strut his stuff on the track and what ever niggling problem has been keeping him away doesn’t flare up again.

Fortune Finder has a wonderful pedigree and stayed on in eye-catching fashion at this venue over 1m 4f when last seen. His mark of 65 looks an absolute gift from the handicapper and he can collect for his new owner Harry Redknapp over this 1m 2f trip.
