Horse Racing Tips: a 5/2 play will certainly do at Southwell today

The Racing Post give us the low down at Southwell on Thursday and like the look of 5/2 play Geography Teacher at 14:50.

Southwell-Racecourse

11:50 Lady Isabel

Although Helix and Grimsthorpe Castle have more to do under their penalties, both are greatly respected. Kingson and Drew Breeze also have claims but the vote goes to LADY ISABEL, who found 1m6f stretching her stamina on her Fibresand debut and is likely to find this shorter trip much more to her liking.

12:20 Ustath

Phantasmal hasn’t run here for some time but it’s noteworthy than his highest RPR was achieved on this surface. He’s respected but Kaafy and USTATH, both winners here nine days ago, look the likeliest options. Ustath won’t mind the return to 6f and he can complete a quick four-timer.

12:50 Byzantia

Although they have to prove themselves on this surface, BYZANTIA and Dream Round have shown enough to suggest they may be able to fight out the finish and narrow preference is for John Gosden’s filly, who promises to be suited by this step up in distance. Messalina and Widaad are also worth considering. Form choice Lover’s Moon put up a very bold show at Kempton yesterday.

13:20 Gravity Force

Karl Burke saddles two of the likelier winners in Shallow Hal and GRAVITY FORCE and the latter, who followed his C&D win last month with a fine second at Doncaster, could be the answer. Split Down South should fare better than last time and is more realistically treated again now.

13:50 Young John

Holes can be picked in the majority of these but YOUNG JOHN arrives in good form after a close second over C&D and first-time cheekpieces may produce the improvement necessary for him to take this. Peruvian Summer may be his main danger, while Groupie should be sharper after his recent return from a spell on the sidelines and could get involved.

14:20 Badger Berry (NAP)

Lots of these arrive with questions marks against them but BADGER BERRY (nap) ran out an impressive C&D winner on only his second go at this 1m trip last month, so he can defy a 7lb rise with more improvement in the pipeline. In-form Palazzo and the returning Crazy Spin, also both C&D scorers, look the two to chase him home in that order.

14:50 Geography Teacher

Parknacilla makes appeal, having given some recent encouragement off her reduced mark, but GEOGRAPHY TEACHER presents even stronger credentials and can rack up win number five at this track.

15:20 Sophar Sogood

With various questions marks hanging over Cool Possibility, Peggy McKay and Gordalan, and Loch Ness Monster out of sorts, the ones to focus on should be The Resdev Way, Grand Pianola and SOPHAR SOGOOD. Ready preference is for the last named, who has been in good form and will appreciate this return to Fibresand on which he is 2-2.
