Timeform’s Kieran Clark has run through a busy card at Wetherby on Wednesday to pick out six of the best bets with Paddy Power TV broadcaster Graham Temple.

11.45am – Rock On Tiger

The one I like here is ROCK ON TIGER which is also the Timeform top-rated. And the reason why it’s Timeform top-rated comes from that Uttoxeter run two starts ago where he was third, and arguably unlucky not to win. I think a better jump at the last and he probably would have won. The first and the second from that race have come out and won since.

He was a bit disappointing at Ludlow last time – he never really traveled, but that was dropping back in trip on a sharp track and he’s now back up to a similar distance as Uttoxeter on a galloping track. If he hadn’t run at Ludlow he would probably be fighting for favoritism here. And he’s probably going to be quite a good price because the market always tends to favour recency bias. There was an excuse for last time and and I think he’s got a pretty good chance.

Just looking at the others that are in there, Sometimes Always was second on handicap debut at Ascot on seasonal reappearance. He did have the run of the race on that occasion and is now 5lbs higher. He could improve a little bit more but he had things his own way last time. Devour is probably going to be the biggest danger, having won over a little bit further than this distance at this track last time on handicap debut, so that one could improve. From a price perspective, Rock On Tiger would be the one I would go for here.

Robinshill

12.15pm – Flat White

I like FLAT WHITE for the Lucy Wadham team. She was second in a mares’ novice behind Panic Attack of David Pipe’s at Uttoxeter on hurdling debut and shaped really promisingly. She was meant to run at Leicester last Monday but got caught over the railings in the paddock beforehand – it looked quite a bad experience – but she didn’t look any worse for it. She was withdrawn as a precaution by the vet, but there are reasons to be with her over First Impression.

First Impression was second her on debut, just touched off, then ran in a Listed race over this course and distance when fifth but didn’t jump well on that occasion and the yard of John Quinn is just a little bit quiet at the moment. He’s had one or two juvenile hurdlers who have been disappointing, so Flat White is the one I favour.

12.50pm – Exelerator Express (NAP)

EXELERATOR EXPRESS for the in-form Neil Mulholland team is the one for me. He made his chasing debut at Sedgefield over 2m 3f last time out, finishing fourth. He raced a bit freely and his early exuberance will suit him. He won over this trip over hurdles while the second from that Sedgefield race – Outcrop – has come out and won at Market Rasen since so there is a bit of substance to the form.

There’s room for improvement and he’s a Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’, which means we want to be with him next time out. He’s got the Timeform ‘P’ on his rating as well, suggesting there is more potential to come over fences. Doukarov is probably going to be the favourite, who won a weak five-runner race at Taunton last time. I don’t think that form is up to much so he’s probably going to make the market for us while the biggest danger could be the Venetia Williams runner, Funambule Sivola, who only has modest form over hurdles for this yard but makes his chasing debut. He’s only a five-year-old and on his French hurdles form he would have a squeak in this.

2.25pm – Joke Dancer

We’ve got the progressive Billingsley top-rated and its not hard to see why. He won his last three starts over fences. The latest of those was at Newbury at the back end of last season and he set a really good pace that day. He won despite going off fast, not because he did. He only won by half a length, but he is progressive. He’s not had a run yet this season so it might be worth taking him on.

The one I’ve landed on, on a big price, is the Sue Smith-trained JOKE DANCER who ran in a Listed race here last time over 2m3f and was still in contention four fences out. He’s back down to his last winning mark at this trip last season so looks well-handicapped. The yard are back among the winners this week after a quiet spell and I really liked the run last time.

3.00pm – Fashion Nova

I’ve gone for the Fergal O’Brien-trained FASHION NOVA, who dead-heated in a point-to-point in Ireland at the second attempt last time out in February. I like the fact that Paddy Brennan has come to ride her, and she has an interesting pedigree. Her dam was a half-sister to Bobs Worth, a Gold Cup winner, so there’s a bit of class there. She’s probably going to be a stayer in time and she’s got a bit of ability.

Wetherby Races Novices' Hurdle

3.30pm – Chosen Port

I’ve gone for a yard who are very much back in form after a quiet spell in CHOSEN PORT for Olly Murphy, and again it was a point-to-point pedigree angle that I’ve gone for. He won his sole start in Irish points back in March and she’s related to some very good types. There’s plenty of class in the pedigree and a bit of speed as well so 2m shouldn’t be a problem. She’ll be able to beat Electric Annie, who was placed in an Irish point and then was second at Taunton. Daryl Jacob will ride her but I think Chosen Port is a better animal and will be hard to beat. Because she is with Olly Murphy, she will probably be a short price, but I would not be surprised if she does make a winning start under rules.
