It’s a tough race to call but COBY NINE did his job well at Stratford and he may have the scope to defy a 6lb rise in a slightly better contest. Fiddlers Bow looks best when fresh and he is feared, while Eau Top is respected.
Dubai Outlaw arrives in good form and has to be taken seriously in his bid to make it four wins from five this season, but he may be vulnerable up 9lb and over this longer trip. Conversely, SUMMIT LIKE HERBIE (nap) was vulnerable over shorter last time but the return to 3m looks positive and he is taken to get back on track. Lough Salt should be thereabouts.
Several are interesting newcomers, including All Shook Up, Firestep and Imperial Storm, and it would be no surprise to see any of those prove good enough. However, experience can count for plenty in these contests and Gerard Mentor has that after a good debut, as does STEADY THE SHIP who is marginally preferred.
There is a good chance that 200,000gns purchase Whitlock will step up considerably upon his debut effort over hurdles. However, he did fade disappointingly on that occasion and a better option may be point winner FREEZING POINT, who was rather disappointing in a bumper on his debut for the Skeltons but should do much better now he goes hurdling. Tremwedge and French import First Soldier are others to consider.
There are question marks about most of them but CRYSTAL LAD shot home into third on unfavourable terms at Taunton and he will be suited by the return to this trip. Skylanna Breeze put two poor runs behind him when winning at Fakenham and may be next best, although Marten and Perfect Pirate are interesting refugees from the pointing field back with Ben Pauling. Ballydun Oscar needs to prove he can hold his form on his second run back from an absence, while Mabela’s stamina depths are unknown.

Spirit Of Waterloo looks dangerous on his Market Rasen run against Roses Poses but JACK THUNDER, who wasn’t at his best over 3m last time, is given another chance as he had looked promising over 2m2f previously. Calvinist has had excuses for his last two runs but he could well return to form now he is back at the right level.
Last week’s Market Rasen winner Manor Park has been found a weak race in which to try to defy a penalty and has to be respected. A wind operation may enable Artistic Language to replicate last season’s best form but the vote goes to veteran performer TINGO IN THE TALE, who has dropped below his last winning mark and hinted at a revival here last time. First Revolution and Muddle Thinking also have possibilities.
