As we wait with impatience for next Sunday’s huge card at Auteuil – their final one before Christmas – attentions turn southbound to the coastal city of Bordeaux. The Grand Steeple Chase de Bordeaux is the feature to a cracking mixed card on Sunday afternoon and I reckon there is some great value to be caught, especially across the jumps races where Guillaume Macaire could have a good day. The NAPs have been going in thick and fast lately, and I don’t expect the run of luck to stop with this one!

12:10 Onestepforward (NAP)

He’s got a bit  to carry – minus jockey Charlotte Prichard’s claim, but the unbeaten ONESTEPFORWARD looks above his eight rivals here and his trainer Guillaume Macaire looks to have found the ideal starting place for this horse that has been off the track since October 2019.

A lengthy break isn’t really a worry coming from the Macaire yard (I have worked there myself, they’re fit) and considering that Bordeaux is only down the road from Macaire’s Royan yard, this is the perfect race and he really is a strong NAP here.

A quick look back through his two victories and we see that there is a wealth of talent left in Onestepforward’s wake. Last week’s Grade One hero Moises Has, recent impressive Irish winner Indiana Jones and regular Group One performer General En Chef were all beaten soundly by this horse. I believe it will just be a simple case of how far!

14:37 So French (Next Best)

He may be pushing on in years, but nine-year-old SO FRENCH has been in sprightly form this autumn and goes in search of the hat-trick in the feature of the day, the Listed Grand Steeple Chase de Bordeaux. By no means the force of old, having won the Grand Steeple Chase de Paris in both 2016 and 2017, and his trainer Guillaume Macaire has really kept So French at the lowest possible level he can in recent months, perhaps acting as a confidence booster.

The champion suffered from some broken ribs in a fall in 2018 and has taken some time to recover. This is the toughest assignment So French has been given this season, but he is in ripe form and he should have no trouble taking this Listed race – providing everything is still in the same order under the bonnet.

13:17 Top Rock Talula (One To Watch)

The ex UK flat horse who has joined the in-form yard of Louisa Carberry recently and takes part in her first handicap here off a very attractive mark of 52 (104 in the UK). TOP ROCK TALULA looks like she has already got the hang of jumping the French style hurdles and her partner, champion jockey Bertrand Lestrade gets the call up here for the first time here – which us an interesting sign! She may have an opportunity to exploit a weak mark here and would not be surprised to see the Carberry inmate run a big race at a nice price.
