4.00pm – Vanitas (NB)

VANITAS shaped encouragingly when second on her debut at Lingfield three weeks ago, conceding experience to the winner but sticking to her task well to be beaten just a length. That form sets the standard here on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings, while it will be no surprise if she proves capable of taking a step forward with the run under her belt. The fine form of the David O’Meara yard also gives cause for optimism (67% of horses running to form), so she is a confident selection in a race where one of the newcomers is likely to emerge as the chief threat.

5.00pm – Bye Bye Lady (NAP)

BYE BYE LADY is bred to be useful (by Sea The Stars out of a half-sister to Peintre Celebre) and looks likely to live up to that tag on the evidence of two starts last autumn. She stepped up markedly on her debut when getting off the mark at Wolverhampton three weeks later, staying on strongly to beat a subsequent winner by a length. Admittedly, it’s a slight concern that we haven’t seen her in the 386 days since, but she remains open to more improvement if all is well, especially now stepping up to two miles. She can prove herself much better than a mark of 72 on her handicap debut.

6.00pm – Krazy Paving (Each-Way)

KRAZY PAVING ran poorly when last seen in June, but he’s well worth another chance given how well he performed in two starts over this course and distance in February. He was returning from a similar absence when winning the first of them in determined fashion, while his next appearance only four days later saw him produce an even better effort to follow up. That form reads well in the context of this race, so he is fancied to take advantage of a drop in the weights to make a winning return to action for Olly Murphy, who has a 23% strike rate with his Flat runners in winter.
