An unappealing betting event, with most of the field having offered little and the two with the best form both having a slight doubt over them. Black Panther may be happier back on AW but RESTANDBETHANKFUL looks the safer option, for all that his debut win hasn’t been advertised. Market support for either Brother Windsor or Gamalou D’Alene would look significant.
Big Bresil has a sizeable absence to overcome and this may be a pipe-opener before attention switches to fences, while Rabski looked the part when winning a bumper recently but that form has yet to be tested. In the circumstances, the most solid option is TAKE YOUR TIME, who made a fair start to his hurdles career over C&D recently and should have plenty more to offer.
Silent Encore certainly deserves to win a race but he may again come up short, with chase debutant HANG TOUGH fancied to deny him this time. Don Herbager has plenty to prove but cannot be ruled out if there is any market support for him.
The handicapper has given a chance to several of these, including O’Rahilly and Finisher, but they are reappearing from lengthy breaks, as is Samtara. With proven fitness on his side, preference is for MOUNT WINDSOR (nap) who was only narrowly denied last month. Any market support for either of the Gary Moore duo Imphal and Darkest Day would be interesting.
Very testing ground would be a worry for Findusatgorcombe, while last year’s winner Kingston Mimosa and Sky Full Of Stars, two of the likelier form candidates, lack recent match practice. Colonel Keating is still capable of better but MUILEAN NA MADOG may be up to defying his long absence for a yard that’s enjoyed plenty of success with similar types in the past. Avoir De Soins isn’t without risk but he’s surely capable of better than we’ve seen so far too.
Getaround may have more to come now handicapping and he’s respected despite the steadier of top weight, while Storm Arising, Potters Hedger and the thriving Robin Gold also enter calculations. AS I SEE IT made a pleasing seasonal return at Uttoxeter last month though and he might be the answer despite a hike up the weights.
A 9lb rise and the burden of 12-2 may not be enough to prevent DESQUE DE L’ISLE from following up last month’s C&D win. Away For Slates is likely to be plugging on and can pick up second place.
