England’s Premier Greyhound racing event takes place in Towcester this Saturday night, Sky Sport’s Darrell Williams gives us the lowdown for all 14 races including his pick for the Derby at 21:15.

21:15 – Derby Final – Swords Rex (nap)
The Main Event. SWORDS REX is really hard to get away from. He’s on-song now and justifiably he’s the favourite. He’s had the perfect Derby preparation, he’s not put a paw wrong and he’s not missed a beat. No dog has won the Derby in this kind of form since West Speed Hawk back in 2006. That is what he’s trying to emulate and I don’t see any reason why he won’t do that. He can go unbeaten to win this.
Trap 4 is the perfect box for him to give Graham Holland back-to-back wins in the Derby. He’s got three dogs in the final and nobody’s done that since the days of Charlie Lister, 20 years ago. Full credit to Graham, who came across with a strong team.
Clona Duke is not really getting any of the attention, despite going quicker at the semi-finals where he broke his own track record, but he’s gotten an atrocious draw in Trap 5. He’s best in Traps 1 or 2 and he’s going to struggle with Swords Rex on his inside. Romeo Command is again drawn inside Swords Rex, as he was last week, is a prolific winner, with 13 wins from 15 starts for Dave Firmager, who owned last year’s winner Magico.
He’s going to have to play second fiddle to Swords Rex early on and that’ll put him on the backfoot, which makes it very tough.
Who could take advantage of how the race should play out? I quite like Gaytime Nemo in Trap 2, he broke best from Trap 2 in the first round of the Derby. He’s a big enough price for an each-way play and I’d certainly be adding him into my forecasts and tricasts.
Ninja Kerry hasn’t won at Towcester but we’ve got to respect him for Belinda Green. I think of the British runners, Trap 1’s Cochise has got a lovely make-up because if Gaytime Nemo were to edge off the rail, he’s a very strong-running dog.
Verdict: Swords Rex wins it for me, I can’t see any other result. I’d add Gaytime Nemo for the forecast and Cochise for the tricast. Swords Rex is my best bet of the night.
English Derby Double
I’ve got to go with Swords Rex. He’s a dog that’s done me plenty of favours over the competition, and for lots of others too of course. Yes, it is the Derby Final but he seems to have everything in his favour. He’s gotten the perfect draw in Trap 4 and it would be so good to see him emulate the great West Speed Hawk by going all the way through the Derby which I think he will do.
Signet Goofy in the 18:35, is getting stronger and stronger and looks like an absolute gimmie in the British-bred race to come home first.
