It’s amazing how fast the English Greyhound Derby comes around but the most prestigious prize in the world of dogs starts tonight at Towcester.
I’ve gone with a couple of unexposed greyhounds who I’m hoping are just going to come right as the derby progresses and of those RIOJA JOEY is one of those that I’m most interested in. This is a greyhound trained by Kevin Hutton of course he’s had Derby success in the past.
Rioja Joey is an unexposed, young greyhound who’s not had many races but what he has already is a nice combination of early speed but he also sees out the trip really well. I’d be expecting him to keep with the pace all the way through. He’s a nice sort, a backable play so let’s hopefully get him through a few rounds and see where we stand then.
In a similar vein, we have MAGICAL KYLE for Mark Wallace, again twice a Derby training champion Mark wont need reminding it’s been a few years since those heady days. This greyhound is open to a lot of improvement as he’s a very young June 2021 dog for Mark’s new set up – the MWD partnership.
I get the feeling this dog has already shown what he’s capable of and has won two out of three at Towcester. He’s a good starter he looks the typical ‘unexposed’ type that Mark is always looking for.
So two slightly speculative plays ante-post in Rioja Joey and Magical Kyle but they’re big enough prices to give it a go. Hopefully those two will keep us involved for a good few rounds.
THURSDAY GREYHOUND TIPS
RIOJA JOEY & SWORDS REX to WIN
As I’ve mentioned above I would fancy RIOJA JOEY he’s my NAP not only on Thursday night but also my NAP of the competition. He can go a long way for Kevin Hutton.
We will then try and boost Thursday’s returns with what looks like the banker for many in SWORDS REX. He’s the track record holder, the Easter Cup winner. So hopefully this double will get us off to the right start on the first night.
