Last week saw an incredible opening night of English Greyhound Derby action with my four outright selections still standing and I have four dogs I fancy over the two nights this weekend, with two selections for Friday and two for Saturday.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Ahead of the action, here’s punts (2 Irish runners and 2 English runners) that could go well…
19:30 Friday – HEAT 5 – ALL ABOUT TED
Kicking off with Friday night and my first selection is Trap 6 ALL ABOUT TED. This experienced campaigner made the quarter-final of the Derby last year and managed to win on the final night as well. He also made the Irish Derby final last year, where he finished fifth, so is a hugely consistent runner who has come into the Derby fresh.
He was very impressive last week when getting it right at traps and making all. He has enough early pace to lead again and if doing so can land the spoils.
20:05 Friday – Heat 7 – Ballinabola Ed
One of my outright fancies for the English Derby is Trap 5 BALLINABOLA ED. He was the fastest first-round winner, breaking the 29-second barrier. He didn’t trap overly well but once he got to the opening bend he was at the front and not for passing. He is in against some stronger opposition with Ballymac Leon being his main danger. He was also hugely impressive last week showing a nice touch of speed. However, Ballinabola Ed has a touch of class and can win again.

18:35 Saturday – Heat 10 – Part Blake
Onto to Saturday’s action and my first selection runs in the 18:35 which is Heat 10 and I fancy trap 2 PART BLAKE. This dog is bang in form with back-to-back wins over C&D posting a solid 29:35. He’s improved on the clock week on week and has the fastest split, so I think if he shows his rivals a clean pair of heels I think he can go well and keep his unbeaten record going.
20:26 Saturday – Heat 16 – Kildare
And my final selection is in Heat 16 which is the final heat at 8:26 and its trap 1 KILDARE who was beaten at a short price last week when battling hard but had to settle for second. He is well drawn again on the inside and if using that to his advantage should win. Trap 5 Scarty Yank is fancied by many for outright honours and ran a great race and will be fancied again but I just think if Kildare can use the inside berth, I think he can get himself back to winning ways.
