Houston Open

Stephan Jaeger to win (each-way)

Winner at Memorial Park a year ago, Stephan Jaeger’s short game can help him launch another attack at the Houston Open title this week.

The German has been outstanding on and around the greens on each of his visits to southeastern Texas. In 2022, he lost strokes off the tee and on approach but still finished in the top 10. Two years later, Jaeger performed slightly above the field average with his driver and irons, but it was his chipping and putting that fired him to victory.

His two best putting weeks this year resulted in a T3 in Hawaii and a T6 in Mexico. He can be trusted as much, if not more than anybody else with the flat stick at this course, and his long game has been decent enough at the start of 2025.

Taylor Moore to win (each-way)

A magnificent putting display at last year’s Houston Open saw Taylor Moore finish within one stroke of Jaeger. Having won the 2023 Valspar Championship on Bermudagrass greens, the Texas-born player appeals as an each-way selection in his home state.

The 31-year-old has been driving the ball beautifully in 2025. Last week was his worst performance of the season, but we can disregard that, such was his consistency with the driver before then.

His iron play needs work, but a bad week on approach in Houston a year ago didn’t prevent him from contending for the trophy. Sawgrass was a step in the right direction in that department, and it was enough to convince me that he was ready to compete for a title in the near future.

Harris English

Harris English to win (each-way)

Harris English’s game is in fine shape. He suffered a brief hangover from his win at Torrey Pines in January but put on a solid tee-to-green display at the Players Championship two weeks ago.

English has five PGA Tour triumphs to his name. Given that one of those was very recent, I expected him to be a fair bit further up the betting board in Houston.

After a rough summer, something seemed to click for the American in October 2024 and that has carried into this term. English isn’t the most consistent player in the world, but the upside is there and he can putt lights-out on any surface. Twice a Bermudagrass winner, this could be another of those weeks.

Indian Open

Joost Luiten to win (each-way)

He has been flying under the radar in recent times but Joost Luiten is set to tee it up at a venue that has been a happy hunting ground. With DLF Country Club form of 11-3-9, the floor is seemingly very low for the Dutchman.

Luiten has made the cut in each of his outings in March, including a T11 at the South African Open Championship. His short game was a problem in 2024 but he looks to have turned the corner just in time for one of his favourite tournaments.

The six-time DP World Tour winner was knocking hard on the door for a seventh success throughout 2023. The signs are there that he can begin to do so again and this is the perfect place to start.
