Antoine Rozner to win
2022 Mauritius Open champion Antoine Rozner is the only top-150 player in the world teeing up in the final DP World Tour event of the year. Arriving with form figures of 3-6-4 from his last three outings, the Frenchman can round off 2024 with another victory at Mont Choisy.
Rozner ended the 2023-24 campaign by finishing within four shots of the lead at both Rolex Series tournaments in the Middle East, which had very strong fields. This week, however, there is a significant step down in class, as most high-ranked golfers have elected to begin their Christmas break.
The fact that the 31-year-old is set to play here signals that he is determined to rack up a fourth success on the Tour.
He is coming off a four-week break but is no stranger to winning after a long layoff. Rozner’s Qatar Masters triumph in 2021 came from a five-week rest.
Jayden Schaper to win (each-way)
Last week was one to forget for Jayden Schaper, who has been threatening to record his breakthrough DP World Tour win throughout the 2020s.
The South African has struggled with consistency, and some of his best performances this year have been sandwiched between missed cuts.
Mont Choisy is a venue he should feel good about attending, given his T9 finish two years ago and his All Africa Team Championship success in 2019, where he was the best scorer.
He had made four of his previous six cuts before Leopard Creek, with two top 20s and a top 10 laying the foundations for a decent year-end. Schaper is one of the classiest golfers in this field and will view this as a chance to break his professional duck.
Matthew Southgate Top 10 Finish (Incl. Ties)
It has been a poor year for Matthew Southgate, who missed nine consecutive cuts throughout the summer. Putting the hard yards in, he looks to have come out the other side in good nick.
The Englishman, determined to turn his form around, played in 13 consecutive weeks from the Czech Masters to the Genesis Championship. After taking a month off, Southgate posted three top 20s on the bounce, including a T11 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship last week, his second-best finish of 2024.
He will want to build on this positive momentum, so seeing him on Mont Choisy’s entry list is no surprise. The last time the Mauritius Open was hosted there, Southgate was T14 and would have been higher up the leaderboard had it not been for a Saturday 75.
Southgate’s approach play put him into contention heading into the weekend in 2022, and he excelled in that department a week ago in South Africa.
