David Micheluzzi to win (each-way)
Four-time PGA Tour of Australasia winner David Micheluzzi kept up his impressive record on home turf last week, posting a fifth-place finish at the BMW Australian PGA Championship.
The 28-year-old will now make the 1,000+ mile trip to Melbourne and have another crack at a maiden DP World Tour triumph.
His latest performance resulted in his fifth top-10 berth of 2024. With two Australian Open top 10s to his name in four attempts – including one in 2022 when the same courses as this week were used – Micheluzzi is in good shape to compete towards the top of the leaderboard.
Links form tends to stand golfers in good stead at Kingston Heath and Victoria. Having posted back-to-back top 20s at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Micheluzzi possesses the skillset to flourish at his national open.
Kazuma Kobori to win (each-way)
Three victories on the PGA Tour of Australasia this year have helped Kazuma Kobori rocket from outside the top 1000 to the world’s top 400 players.
The Japanese-born star, who represents New Zealand, has participated mostly on the DP World Tour and Asian Tour since racking up those wins and has more than held his own amongst the fiercer competition.
Kobori’s last two DWPT outings saw him end with a respectable T12 at St Andrews and a T15 in Brisbane a week ago. He hit over 80% of fairways and was the third-best putter in the field throughout the Australian PGA Championship.
The former Australian Boys’ Amateur runner-up is on an upwards trend and can land a breakout success at appealing odds.
Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen – Top European
One of the DP World Tour’s most consistent golfers, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, finished T8 on his debut at the Australian PGA Championship, comfortably securing Top Nordic honours.
The Dane has now decided to test himself at the Australian Open for the first time and as one of the bigger hitters in the field, he will have an advantage at Kingston Heath, where three of the four rounds will be played.
It is a relatively weak field, with very few top Europeans teeing it up. Neergaard-Petersen is among the favourites to be the pick of the bunch in that category and for good reason. His recent results are 8-2-14-50-18-4-13, and he is likely to at least give us a run for our money in this market as all elements of his well-rounded game are in terrific nick.
His stats from Royal Queensland were remarkable considering his lack of course experience. He ranked in the top seven for greens in regulation for every round, and in the top five for driving accuracy every day too. Had it not been for a cold putter during the first 36 holes, Elvis Smylie may have had another serious contender to fend off.
