DP World Tour Championship
Tommy Fleetwood to win
The DP World Tour Championship roll of honour is a star-studded one. Nicolai Hojgaard, last year’s champion, is the only winner since 2011 to have not won a major championship either before or after their Jumeirah Golf Estates success.
Jon Rahm has three titles to his name. Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, and Matt Fitzpatrick have two, while Danny Willett and Collin Morikawa’s names are also carved on the trophy.
Of those, only McIlroy will participate in Dubai this week, and he is closing in on a sixth Race to Dubai title. Players at single-figure prices tend to come out on top here, and McIlroy will undoubtedly be popular, but Tommy Fleetwood, twice a runner-up at the event, takes preference at a juicier price.
He won the Dubai Invitational in January and has come agonisingly close to doubling his victory tally for 2024 in recent months. With four top fives in his last eight outings, the Dubai resident will almost unquestionably be towards the top end of the leaderboard on Sunday, and he will close one out at some point.
Thriston Lawrence Top 10 Finish (Incl. Ties)
Only a Thriston Lawrence triumph would leave McIlroy with work to do to secure the Race to Dubai crown, and even then, an 11th-place finish would be enough for the Northern Irishman.
Lawrence can only hold up his end of the bargain, though, and he believes he can. “Where I am now, it just feels comfortable. It feels like I can win every week,” he said ahead of the season-ending tournament.
The world number 47 has played the Earth Course twice, finishing T5 on his latest effort in 2023. He then came in a tie for second at Dubai Creek Resort two months later, showcasing a genuine Middle East pedigree.
Lawrence posted a 64 on Sunday at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to finish in T6, and he is an attractive proposition at the price to lock in another top-10.
Butterfield Bermuda Championship
Mackenzie Hughes to win
Mackenzie Hughes is making his debut appearance at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. His lack of course history and five-week break from competitive action may pose some questions about his chances, but this short course should be ideal for him.
The Canadian has two Bermudagrass wins on the PGA Tour, and it is also encouraging that wayward driving is not punished too heavily at Port Royal. Various types of players have succeeded at the course, but all winners have needed to scramble and putt well – two areas in which Hughes excels.
He finished T8 and T4 in his last two starts, and it is not unusual for Hughes to come alive at this time of year. The 33-year-old signed off with a runner-up spot and a T7 last year, having won the Sanderson Farms Championship in the post-FedEx Cup part of the 2022 campaign.
Wesley Bryan – Top USA
Having registered a T6 in Mexico last week, Wesley Bryan is now only three places outside the top 125 in the FedEx Cup Fall Standings and needs to keep his positive momentum going through the last couple of events.
Confidence must be flowing through Bryan, who continues to gain strokes in all departments. With wind forecasts in Bermuda, those with a track record of performing in those conditions are given extra consideration. Bryan falls into that category after his Harbour Town victory in 2017.
There are several international contenders towards the top of the board, so the smart move is to take the American in the Top USA market.
