Genesis Championship

Nicolai Hojgaard to win

Having spent most of the season plying his trade on the PGA Tour, Nicolai Hojgaard finds himself outside the top 70 in the Race to Dubai, and he needs a strong showing in Korea if he is to force his way into the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

The Dane ended an excellent 2023 campaign by winning the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates. But he has been winless since, while his brother Rasmus, who has only played a handful of PGA Tour events, won the Irish Open and has moved up to a career-best 58th in the world rankings, only five places behind Nicolai.

Motivation is not the only reason to back the few minutes-older twin this week. After a poor run of results, he now has back-to-back top-20 finishes and there was a lot to like about his weekend performance in Spain.

On Saturday, he ranked fourth for accuracy off the tee, seventh for driving distance, second for greens in regulation, and first in scrambling with a 100 per cent success rate which he repeated on Sunday.

Junghwan Lee Top 20 Finish (Incl. Ties)

With a favourable record at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club, Junghwan Lee can carry his KPGA form into this co-sanctioned event. The 33-year-old has three top-10s in his last five starts in the Far East and came in a tie for 10th at this tournament a year ago when the field strength was similar.

In a rare foray into Europe, the Korean played in the Scottish Open in the summer and shot four rounds in the 60’s. He relished the challenge and will believe he can compete towards the top end at a venue where he was a runner-up in 2018.

Had it not been for a missed cut on the number at The Charity Classic last week, we might not have been offered such enticing odds on a top-20 berth in Incheon. It makes sense to buy the slight dip.

Sahith Theegala

ZOZO Championship

Sahith Theegala to win

It’s a top-heavy field at Narashino Country Club this week, with three major winners each at single-figure prices at the summit of the betting board. Sahith Theegala finds himself in the next tier down before a dropoff in quality, and it’s the Californian who appeals as the headline pick for this event.

Theegala had the second-best 72-hole score at the TOUR Championship to end up third overall in the FedEx Cup, and he followed that up by coming in seventh place at the Procore Championship in his only strokeplay appearance since.

Having won the Presidents Cup with Team USA a month ago, Theegala returns from his short time off with a great chance of notching his first title of 2024. His maiden PGA Tour triumph last year came after a similar break, and this short course is an ideal setup for him as he proved with his T5 in 2022.

Beau Hossler to win (each-way)

It was at this stage of last season when Beau Hossler came to life, with his final three events of the year producing finishes of 15-2-7. That ensured that he came between 51st and 60th in the FedExCup Fall standings and therefore secured his place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational.

As it stands, he is five spots outside the top 60 and set to miss out in 2025. A place at Pebble Beach is important to Hossler, not just because it is played in his home state, but because with three consecutive top 15’s there, it has been a valuable competition for him in terms of picking up ranking points.

The same can be said for the ZOZO. Hossler was a runner-up in Japan 12 months ago having come 16th on his debut in 2022. He rattled the crossbar at the Sanderson Farms Championship earlier this month as he lost out in a playoff against Kevin Yu. Two decent outings since show that he is still up for the fight.
