BMW Championship
Castle Pines Golf Club in Denver, Colorado
TV: Sky Sports Golf, Sky Sports Main Event, Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th August
The penultimate event of the FedEx Cup playoffs sees the top 50 players in the standings visit Colorado for the first PGA tournament staging at Castle Pines Golf Club since 2006.
At 8,130 yards, it’s the longest course ever featured on the PGA Tour. Located in Castle Rock, at an altitude of up to 6,400 feet, the elevation will reduce some of that distance while introducing unique physical challenges.
Patrick Cantlay & Tommy Fleetwood both to finish in the top 20 (incl. ties)
Two-time BMW Championship winner Patrick Cantlay seems to come alive in the playoffs and his final three rounds at the FedEx St Jude Championship suggested this year will be no different.
Had it not been for an opening round 72, Cantlay may have contended for victory or at least a top-five finish, which he managed in his last two outings before The Open Championship.
The 2021 FedEx Cup champion performed well at altitude in Las Vegas and Phoenix which should stand him in good stead to keep up his good form on a manageable track.
Tommy Fleetwood was the best player in the field from tee to green in Memphis last week, and he requires a strong showing in Colorado, to improve on his 31st position in the FedEx Cup standings.
The Olympic silver medalist will need to putt better if he is to lock in a place at the Tour Championship. His struggles in that department at TPC Southwind were somewhat uncharacteristic for him this season, and the Englishman can join Cantlay in the top 20.
Nick Dunlap – Top 20 finish (incl. ties)
After winning The American Express in January, Nick Dunlap has proven his triumph in California as an amateur was no fluke. The 20-year-old added another trophy to his collection by notching the Barracuda Championship last month, but perhaps even more encouraging, was his performance in Memphis a week ago.
Only a place in the top five would have been enough to see Dunlap progress to the BMW Championship, and the fact he was able to achieve that in such elite company, showed he is cut out for this level.
Dunlap won the 2023 U.S. Amateur at altitude in Denver, Colorado, and a positive result 20 miles south could see him secure a place at the season-ending Tour Championship.
Danish Golf Championship
Lübker Golf Resort, Aarhus, Denmark
TV: Sky Sports+, Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th August
Lübker Golf Resort makes its DP World Tour debut, replacing HimmerLand Golf & Spa Resort, as the home of the renamed Danish Golf Championship.
The par 71, 7,026-yard course is not the longest, but there are some lengthy par-fours on the back nine that could determine who lifts the trophy on Sunday.
Bernd Wiesberger to win
Twice a winner in Denmark, Bernd Wiesberger returns to Scandinavia with happy memories and the Austrian is playing well enough to make it a hat-trick of wins in the Nordic region.
Nobody hit more greens in regulation in the final round of the Czech Masters last week than Wiesberger, whose driving accuracy was also impressive as he posted a T6 finish.
He and Nicolai Hojgaard are the two best players across the various strokes gained on approach categories on the DP World Tour this year. Preference, though, is for Wiesberger, who is available at a bigger price than the Dane and has a better record at this event.
Nacho Elvira – Top 10 finish (incl. ties)
The Scottish Open and The Open Championship were not suitable tests for Nacho Elvira, who got back on track with a decent display in Prague last week.
This shorter course has all the makings of a track he should excel on, just as he did at Himmerland in 2023, as he lost out in a playoff to Rasmus Hojgaard.
The Spaniard’s victory in Belgium in May, along with top fives in Kenya and Sweden, has left him in the 10th and final spot in the race to earn PGA Tour membership for 2025. He needs a stellar end to the campaign to hold off those chasing him.
Last year’s disappointment in Denmark, where he surrendered a three-shot lead in the final round, only fuels his motivation to succeed this time.
