Wyndham Championship
Sedgefield Course Club in Greensboro, North Carolina
TV: Sky Sports Gold, Thursday 8th – Sunday 11th August

The final stop on the PGA Tour’s regular season calendar is Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. A 156-player field will attend, with many looking to bolster their post-season prospects.

Seven of the last eight editions of the Wyndham Championship have seen winning scores of -20 or better. Kevin Kisner’s six-man playoff triumph in 2021 was the only exception.

Accuracy trumps power on this par 70, 7,131-yard course, and Bermuda grass-putting ability is also key.

Brian Harman

Sitting 21st in the FedEx Cup standings, Brian Harman is one strong showing away from guaranteeing a spot at East Lake for the season-ending Tour Championship.

A sixth-place position at Sedgefield in 2019 was followed up with finishes of 27-MC-71 in Greensboro. Still, some of Harman’s best results on the PGA Tour have come at venues that require similar attributes to this – namely, TPC Deere Run, a course he won at in 2014, and Harbour Town Golf Links, where he has five placements of 13th or better at the RBC Heritage.

There are 12 par 4 holes, eight of which are 400-450 yards long. Over the last 36 rounds, Harman ranks second-best in the field in scoring over that distance. His tee-to-green game is in excellent shape heading into the Wyndham Championship, and the 2023 Open champion can use his fairway-finding prowess to great effect.

Aaron Rai

Rain and wind look set to play a part this week, so I’d like to have Aaron Rai on side – a man who can thrive in those conditions.
His form read 4-39-32-14-19-2-7-4 before a somewhat disappointing T75 at the Open Championship. The Englishman has been one of the most consistent players in the world in recent months and will have an eye on the Tour Championship, albeit he has a lot of work to do.

Positioned in 53rd, Rai needs to rack up the points at Sedgefield so that he doesn’t have too much ground to make up at the FedEx St. Jude Championship next week and the BMW Championship which will ultimately decide the final 30.

Rai ranks third in driving accuracy and eighth for strokes gained on approach on the PGA Tour this season. He can defy his poor course form and compete towards the top of the leaderboard this time at Sedgefield.

Brian Harman The Open

Luke Clanton

A bogey-free 63 in the final round at the John Deere Classic saw Luke Clanton tie for second place, becoming the first amateur to finish in the top 10 in back-to-back PGA Tour starts since 1958.

Since the US Open, where the First Team All-American posted an impressive T41, he has ranked fifth in strokes gained off the tee and 12th in strokes gained on approach.

The fearless 20-year-old has five amateur wins to his name including three this year, and looks to have the ideal skillset for this particular test.

With his Top 10 prowess this season, he could be a contender in Paddy’s new Top 10 incl ties market – ahead of Thursday’s tee off.

C.T. Pan

There is plenty to motivate C.T. Pan this week, with not only a play-off place on his mind but also the President’s Cup, for which the qualification cut-off is in three weeks.

The Taiwanese golfer needs to do some climbing on both fronts, but he came close to victory at Sedgefield in 2018, recording a T2, which was also his result at the John Deere Classic a month ago.

C.T. ranks well across all important metrics for this course, and his Olympics experience last week, where he was T5 after two rounds, will have been a good tune-up for the regular season’s final event. The 32-year-old looks a value play to deliver in our Top Asian market segment.
