The Open Championship 2024 is back as Royal Troon takes centre stage for the final major event of the golf season.
After a thrilling first three majors, there looks set to be more drama as the world’s best go head to head at one of the toughest coastal links courses in the UK.
Royal Troon in Ayrshire, Scotland has hosted The Open twice this century, with the last major at the course taking place in 2016 in which Henrik Stenson triumphed.
Stenson picked up a cool $1,525,620 for his victory back then, but the prize fund has increased quite a lot since then, with the runner-up bagging a lot more money than that this year.

The Open Championship 2024 prize money
The prize pot for the 2024 Open Championship stands at $17million – a $500k increase from 12 months ago. The winner will pick up 3 per cent more than last year’s champion Brian Harman, who took home $3m. While it has the smallest purse of all the major championships, The Open offers a different kind of prestige.
