Ryder Cup tips: A 13/1 Singles acca that sees Europe triumph in Rome

Top tipster Martin Mathews on what should be a day of fireworks in the Singles matches as the competition draws to a close.

Sunday’s Ryder Cup Acca Tips

John Rahm v Scottie Scheffler – John Rahm to Win
Rory McIlroy v Sam Burns – Rory McIlroy to Win
Tyrrell Hatton v Brian Harman – Brian Harman to Win
Shane Lowry v Jordan Spieth – Shane Lowry to Win

An Acca with these selections pays at approximately 13/1 with Paddy Power. CLICK HERE TO ADD TO YOUR BETSLIP.

With a 10.5 – 5.5 lead heading into the singles, Europe are well and truly in the box seat and I expect them to get the job done. With the USA finally showing up in Saturday’s fourballs, Zach Johnson will be reminding his team of what Europe did at Medinah in 2012 and that anything is possible.

Turning our attention to the singles matches then and with little margin for error Johnson has front loaded his line-up with his biggest names in the hope of getting the fast start they need if they are to have any chance. Not unsurprisingly though Luke Donald has anticipated this and chosen to fight fire with fire.

John Rahm v Scottie Scheffler – John Rahm to Win

Tee-off time: 10:35am

As a result we see John Rahm heading out against Scottie Scheffler in the opening match at 10.35 UK Time and I will start our acca by taking the Spaniard to get revenge for the defeat he suffered at the world number one’s hands at Whistling Straits.

In that encounter of course Europe were on the end of a hammering and Scheffler as a rookie was under no pressure whatsoever, though the Texan has managed just a half point from three matches so far while Rahm is unbeaten with 2.5 points from three.

Scheffler looked emotionally drained after his record breaking drubbing alongside Brooks Koepka at the hands of Hovland and Aberg on Saturday morning and I expect Rahm to have too much for him as he looks to lead from the front.

Rory McIlroy v Sam Burns – Rory McIlroy to Win

Tee-off time: 11:11 am

Next up I will take Rory McIlroy to make no mistakes against Sam Burns when they head out at 11.11 UK Time. One of the key differences this week has been that Europe’s ‘big three’ of McIlroy, Rahm and Hovland have stepped up to the plate winning eight of the 11 points they have competed for with the Northern Irishman bagging three from four.

His one loss to date came as a result of Patrick Cantlay’s heroics in Saturday’s final match after, which McIlroy was fuming with the behaviour of the American’s caddy.

Having been so distraught after the defeat two years ago, McIlroy has clearly been on a mission this week and while Burns produced a vastly improved performance on Saturday to win his four ball alongside Morikawa I expect no mistakes from the four time Major Champion.

Tyrrell Hatton v Brian Harman – Brian Harman to Win

Tee-off time: 11:35 am

Teeing off at 11.35 UK Time we have Tyrrell Hatton and Brian Harman and it is the American as outsider who gets my vote here. After a shaky start on Friday Harman produced the kind of gritty performance on Saturday that many were expecting from him bagging a win alongside Homa both in the Foursomes and Fourballs.

Having seen how Harman handled the partisan crowds at Hoylake in the summer it is no surprise that he has thrived in the hostile atmosphere this week.

Hatton who has lost both of his previous Ryder Cup singles matches has an impressive 2.5pts from 3 under his belt this week, however there is no doubt that Rahm has done the lion’s share of the work for the two wins he has notched and I am happy to chance the lefty here.

Shane Lowry v Jordan Spieth – Shane Lowry to Win

Tee-off time: 12:23 am

Finally to finish our acca I have to oppose Jordan Spieth when he heads out against Shane Lowry at 12.23 UK time.

Spieth is yet to win a Ryder Cup singles match in four previous attempts and there is nothing in his ragged performance so far this week that suggests he will turn that record around here. Lowry meanwhile has bagged one point from two alongside Sepp Straka in foursomes and with his passion for this event once more on full display I expect him to add another point here.
