Martin landed a very handsome each-way tip on Thursday, thanks to 100/1 shot Brian Harman in a First Round Leaders pick. He’s back to keep it swinging on Sunday.

With the dust settled on the round three action at Hoylake we are back to where we started as 36 hole leader Brian Harman has maintained the five shot lead he held heading into Saturday. There is no doubting that the lefty looked edgy early on and after bogeying the opening hole and then dropping another shot on the fourth his lead was down to two. From there on in though the American never looked back and he now sits on 12 under through 54 holes.
With Tommy Fleetwood failing to get any momentum going and Rory McIlroy’s putter delivering an all too familiar Major Championship story the main challenge from the pack to Harman emerged from Cameron Young and Jon Rahm.
Young produced another superb long game display to book his place in the final group alongside Harman, while Rahm, who get the best of the conditions in the morning, stormed through the field with a 63 to sit a further shot back on 6 under.
With a further five players sat on 5 under including our pre-event pick Viktor Hovland, Jason Day and Fleetwood, there is certainly no shortage of big names waiting to pounce if Harman falters. Ultimately though, while stranger things have happened, Harman has looked so solid this week that I am reluctant to take him on.

Shubhankar Sharma v Alex Fitzpatrick
Instead then I will turn my attention to the final day’s two balls in search of some value starting with Shubhankar Sharma as the outsider when he tees off against Alex Fitzpatrick at 13:35.
The younger of the Fitzpatrick brothers has had quite a week at Hoylake and he is currently in position to own the family bragging rights as he sits ahead of his brother Matt heading into Sunday.
This is clearly unchartered waters for the youngster though and I envisage him struggling to follow up yesterday’s 65, which came from off the pace in the easiest of conditions. While Fitzpatrick has relied heavily on the putter this week, Sharma has been really solid from tee green, ranking 13th in approach play.
The Indian is hardly a household name however, as a two-time DP World Tour winner he has way more experience than his playing partner and I am struggling to understand why he is not favourite here.
Tommy Fleetwood v Sepp Straka
Next up I will take my chances with Tommy Fleetwood against Sepp Straka when the duo head out at 13:45. For fans of the home favourite it was sadly an all too familiar tale yesterday as he struggled to push forward and put any real pressure on Harman.
Coming out today though starting seven shots back and with a mountain to climb I would not be surprised if we see a very different Fleetwood as he looks to ‘go for broke’ and give the home fans a Sunday to remember. It is certainly a script we have seen before from him in the final round of Majors as he has twice closed out the US Open with a 63.
Straka, of course, is no push over and he will be keen for a big finish himself as he looks to secure a Ryder Cup spot.
The Austrian is known to blow hot and cold though and having finished with a bogey six on Saturday he may just have had the wind taken out of his sails. Ultimately this is more about Fleetwood who I expect to go well today.
Viktor Hovland vs Jon Rahm
Next up I will take a risk on Viktor Hovland getting the better of Jon Rahm at decent odds against when they tee off at 14:05.
After two poor days the Spaniard vaulted himself into contention on Saturday, however Hovland has been the steadier of the two across the week with only the putter holding him back over the first two days.
Both men will be looking to produce the low one needed to reel Harman in today, however of the two, Rahm is the one who I can see getting frustrated a lot quicker if things don’t go his way. The Norwegian has been in stronger form than the Spaniard over the past couple of months and he looks the safer pair of hands to me here.
Cameron Young v Brian Harman
To wrap up our final round acca, I am going to side with Cameron Young against Brian Harman when they head out at 14:15pm.
Leading the field in approach play for the week, Young’s length off the tee is a big advantage in the wet conditions and having come so close in the Majors last year, including at St Andrews, we know he has the temperament for this.
While I expect Harman to hang tough, anything around level par may well be good enough for him to take home the Claret Jug and I am happy to take Young to get the better of him in their match up.
