It’s fair to say Augusta has not been the happiest hunting ground for superstar Irish golfer Rory McIlroy.
The 33-year-old has been to the iconic venue on 14 occasions in a bid to crack the US Masters, but the famous Green Jacket has eluded him so far.
Incredibly, it is the only major championship missing from McIlroy’s CV, which includes two PGA Championships, the US Open and the Open Championship. Not too shabby.
We’re at nine years and counting since McIlroy’s last victory in a major, however, and his bid to complete the Grand Slam goes on. Can he get it done this weekend?
Despite McIlroy’s lengthy drought in major championships, he heads into his latest bid as the favourite in Paddy Power’s betting for the US Masters 2023.
And with Paddy paying a whopping 10 PLACES each-way, it is worth having a leaf through the history books to see what his record at the famous tournament is like.
McIlroy has finished tied for 10th or better on seven occasions, with last year’s second behind Scottie Scheffler being his best placing to date, although he ended three shots behind and a final round of 64 shot him up the leaderboard.
In fact, the bulk of his worst appearances at the US Masters came at the beginning of his career, missing the cut and failing to break the top 10 in his first five starts, suggesting it took him a while to adapt to Augusta.
This is where each-way players can take some heart as McIlroy has been outside the top 10 just twice since 2014, tying for 21st in 2019 and missing the cut in 2021.
