Masters tips: Who Paddy Power punters are backing for Augusta

The first golf major of the season is finally here. We’ve got four thrilling days of action at Augusta for The Masters 2023.

Who are the most backed players?

In terms of the best backed, it’s the defending champion Scottie Scheffler who has already won twice this year including at the Players Championship.

The fact that he’s won around Augusta is most definitely swaying punters in his direction. He’s been closely followed by Rory McIlroy as the most popular golfer with punters and between now and Thursday’s start.

McIlroy could very well be the best backed golfer for the first Major of the year as he bids to win the green jacket for the very first time.

What would be a good result for Paddy Power?

Of the big three, Jon Rahm is the best result. Like Rory, he’s yet to win a Masters green jacket and by the looks of it, punters seem to think that wait will continue this year.

Cam Smith and Justin Thomas would also be favourable results as it stands.

What does the split look like from a support point of view in terms of betting on LIV golfers vs non-LIV?

At the time of writing, roughly 11% of bets have been placed on LIV golfers with Cam Smith being the most popular by far. It seems as well as a lot of big named golfers staying loyal to golfing tradition, punters appear to be following suit.

And to add context to that, bets on Rory McIlroy are nearly on par with the total number of bets on the LIV Tour golfers with McIlroy attracting 9% of total bets.

When you add up the number of bets on the Big Three (McIlroy, Scheffler & Rahm), they add up to nearly 25% of total bets placed so far, which is over twice the amount of bets placed on the total amount of LIV golfers taking part.
