FedEx St Jude Championship

This is a brilliant event and it’s a world-class field. It’s hard to see past the elite players in terms of finding a winner. Among them, I’ve got Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris.

Scheffler’s the World No.1 and he deserves to be right up there in the betting. He’s won four times this year but it could have been five after he lost a playoff in Texas. He was in the mix at the Open on Sunday but his putting let him down. If his putting comes back, he’s a real threat. He’s closer to home and the course really suits him.

Zalatoris is probably my bet of the week. He was eighth last year in this tournament but he was carrying an injury. He returns a year later with course form and he’ll be hungry as this is his first appearance in the Fed Ex Cup. If his putting is half as good as it was last year, he should be right there.

I also like Keith Mitchell and Tom Hoge as bigger priced bets.

Hoge was in the top five last time we saw him and he’s right up there in the top 30 for the Fed Ex Cup. He’s won this season and he’s had a top 10 finish in the US PGA. He’s one of the best iron players on the tour and he’s been underestimated. If he plays like he did last time, he should be there or thereabouts.

Mitchell is the local man as he’s from Tennessee. He drove brilliantly last week and his game is all about power. He shot 64 on his last game of golf at this course. He’s contented several times this year and he’ll have loads of local support.

ISPS Handa World Invitational

I’m very keen on Santiago Tarrio and Dale Whitnell. This is a good chance for both of them to shine in what is a weak field.

Tarrio has been one of the better players on the European Tour and he won twice on the Challenge Tour last season. He played on this course last year and he finished just outside the top 10. His form over the last three months has been impressive and he’s finding his feet. He’s accurate from the tee and he’s very good with his approaches. If he can putt well, he can go really well.

Whitnell is a name that often pops up on leaderboards but he probably hasn’t done it enough. He can impress in this company. He finished just outside the top 10 here last year and he’s got an impressive record on other courses that are similar to this one. He’s accurate from the tee and he’s got the ability to win a tournament like this. He’s found his game in the last two months.
