The Claret Jug is up for grabs once again as the Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland prepares to host the 150th edition of the Open Championship.

Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy has not won a Major title since the USPGA Championship in August 2014, which came a month after he lifted the Claret Jug at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. An eight-year drought will extend to nine if he is unable to top the leaderboard at St Andrews but he has enjoyed a decent season to date, finishing in the top 10 in all three of the Majors.
St Andrews last hosted the Open Championship in 2015, which McIlroy missed, but he was tied for third the last time he competed in this event at this course in 2010. Can the Irishman end his long wait for a fifth Major?
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele heads to St Andrews in brilliant form after back-to-back tournament victories at the Travelers Championship and Scottish Open.
The 28-year-old has yet to win a Major but was tied for second at the Open Championship in 2018 when finishing two strokes behind Francesco Molinari at Carnoustie.
Jon Rahm
It’s not been Jon Rahm‘s strongest season by his incredibly high standards as he finished outside the top 10 in all three Majors so far as well as slipping from his spot at the summit of the world rankings.
However, the Spaniard has a decent record on links courses having won the Irish Open in 2017 and 2019 as well as tying for third at last year’s Open Championship.
Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth‘s had another challenging season, with victory at the RBC Heritage being his sole tournament success of the calendar year. The Majors haven’t been much better either for the 28-year-old; missing the cut in the US Masters, tying for 34th in the USPGA Championship and tying for 37th in the US Open.
The 2017 Open Championship was the last of Spieth’s Major wins but he was the runner-up in last year’s edition and when the Open Championship was last held at St Andrews in 2015.
Matt Fitzpatrick
Sheffield native Matt Fitzpatrick claimed the first Major of his career when triumphing at the US Open last month and is up to a career high world ranking of 10th.
The 27-year-old has failed to finish in the top 10 on his five previous cracks at the Open Championship, although he warmed up for this by tying for sixth in the Scottish Open.
Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler blitzed the field at the US Masters in April to win his maiden Major title before missing the cut at the USPGA Championship and tying for second at the US Open.
The world number one, who hasn’t topped the leaderboard since his US Masters success, finished in the top 10 on his first crack at the Open Championship last year.
