It’s all eyes on Brookline this week for the 2022 US Open, and here to preview the action is Paddy Power’s top golf trader Iain McLaughlin and Sporting Life’s Ben Coley.

They’ve picked their US Open outright winner tips already, so here’s who they fancy in some of our other special betting markets.

Top Swedish Player: David Lingmerth

Ben Coley

In the Top Swedish market, DAVID LINGMERTH is worth a bet against Alex Noren, the favourite. There are four Swedes in total including Jonas Blixt who’s ball striking could be exposed in the US Open and Sebastian Soderberg could be the same. He finished last but one the last time he played golf in America and his only major appearance was the US Open in 2016 and he missed the cut. I think he’ll miss the cut again here.

If Lingmerth can make the cut, which I think he can, I think he can win this market. He’s made the cut in all three of his US Open starts and never been outside the top-25. The fact that he’s back here suggests a general improvement in his play so I think he’s worth a bet.

A hole-in-one in rounds 1 or 2

Ben Coley

The big thing here compared to other US Opens is that all four of the par-3s are quite short. One of them in particular is the downhill, 120-yard, 11th hole which is just a wedge with a small green. It’s a rare opportunity for players to just go straight at the flag and I think they will.

Just as a comparison, in five of the six US Opens played at Pebble Beach, which has short par-3s as well, there’s been a hole-in-one so I think we’ll get one this week. You can play odds-on that we’ll get one at any stage but I’m going to be a bit more speculative and say that we’ll get one in the first two rounds when the full field will have a couple cracks at the 11th.

Top 40 Finish: Nick Hardy

Iain McLaughlin

Nick Hardy was 35th last week in Canada and the result probably didn’t reflect how well he struck the golf ball. I was looking through his stats, tee-to-green, driving accuracy, distance combined and greens in regulation and he really hit the ball well. He’s a PGA Tour rookie who’s really going places.

What’s sparked my interest is those ball striking stats which should link up really well to a US Open test so I think he can sneak into the top-40.
