We’re joined by SportingLife’s golfing encyclopedia Ben Coley who runs through this weekend’s action at the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship and Soudal Open. Our go-to man has a bunch of main selections.
I like the look of Marc Leishman and Maverick McNealy heading into this one. They’ll both be motivated to put on a performance. McNealy is yet to win on the PGA Tour but the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship is the perfect opportunity for him to shine.
Some of the big names have started to look ahead to next week and McNealy can take advantage. He’s a big hitter but he’s also a solid putter. That’s the perfect formula for success.
As for Leishman, he’s on the verge of dropping out of the world’s top 50 and you can be sure he’ll want to avoid that. There’s loads of reasons for him to be fully focused. It’s a really good course for him and there’s so much space for him if he sprays it off the tee a little.
My main two picks are Victor Perez and Joost Luiten. Perez has a touch of class and he’s started to find his way in recent weeks after struggling for a while. He’s hitting the ball better and he played really well at this course in 2018.
Luiten should get some home support at the Soudal Open, which can only help him. His hometown is just an hour north of the course. He’s been playing better recently and this is a really good course for him. It’s more about wedges rather than hitting the ball a long way.
I’ve seen enough recently from him to suggest he can go well in what is a relatively weak field.
