Branden Grace
Branden Grace was a former champion here in 2021. He didn’t have to go through the rigours of the Ryder Cup so he comes in rested and in nice form. The only worry with him is he hasn’t been putting very well but putting tends to be fickle and if that turns around, Grace is a great pick. He’s won this year on the PGA Tour and he’s also been runner up. Those were in better fields than we have in this tournament. He’s well prepared for the bad weather, which it looks like we’ll get. He’s gritty and plays better when the wind is blowing. He’s got a great chance.
Robert MacIntyre
Robert MacIntyre has had a difficult summer. Many of us thought he’d kick on and make the Ryder Cup team but it didn’t quite work out – and that might have weighed heavily on him. It’s such a big dream of his and it could explain his dip in form. MacIntyre is a brilliant links golfer and he’s finished in the top 10 in the last two Open Championships. He’s good in the conditions and he’s got all the tools. Ignore the form, he’s free of the Ryder Cup pressure and he’ll be determined to make an early statement.
Thomas Detry
Thomas Detry is still looking for his breakthrough on the European Tour. He’s based in England so it’s not too far away from being a home game for him. He’s become a great links golfer and he was unlucky in the Scottish Open earlier this summer. That was in a better field than this one. He also finished fourth in the Dutch Open, which is a similar golf course to over here. Detry is one of the form players and he’s a good each-way price.
David Law
David Law has one European Tour win and he says he’s playing the best golf of his life. Being at home in Scottish conditions will only help his game. He’s won in Scotland on the Challenge Tour so he’s capable of winning here. He can place at a very big price.
