I like Cameron Champ the most in this one. He hasn’t been in the best form in 2021 but he’s turned it around recently and his game is looking better heading into the Byron Nelson Championship.
In his last three starts, he was 34th at the Texas Open, 26th at the Masters and 17th at the Zero Classic where he was partnered with Tony Finau.
They were challenging for the title until a poor four-hole stretch just before the back nine which cost them the victory.
The course should play to Champ’s strengths here as he’s one of the best drivers of a ball on the tour. Players who have power off the tee can really take advantage.
There’s also some rain forecast which will make the course play even longer. He’s in for a big performance this week.
I also like Tom Lewis. He missed the cut last week at the Wells Fargo Championship and he looked all at sea but what caught my eye is he played the last few holes five under par.
That indicated he found something in his game heading into this week. He’s another really good driver of the ball, similar to Champ.
He’s gained strokes in the field in his last four events on the PGA Tour off the tee. His long game looks to be in order and despite a poor start last time out, he’s worth backing at the Byron Nelson Championship.
I’m also going for Hank Lebioda as the best big-priced outsider. He’s impressed in spells this year and he was 51st at the Wells Fargo Championship last week.
What caught my eye were his ball-striking figures. He ranked sixth in the field in strokes gained on approach. He was 21st in strokes gained off the tee. If he can continue his fine ball striking he’s worth looking at, especially with him being a huge price.
