Dustin Johnson may have emerged victorious at Augusta on Sunday, pulling on the famous Green Jacket for the first time after a record 20-under-par performance, but there is plenty more golf to come in Georgia this week.
The RSM Classic gets underway at Sea Island Resort on Thursday, with a number of major Masters contenders forgoing a well-earned holiday in favour of pursuing more silverware here.
Last weekend’s joint runner-up Sung-jae Im and 10th-placed Webb Simpson are both on the entry list, but Paddy Power trader Iain McLaughlin is looking further down the field for some each-way value.
Check out his conversation with PPTV’s Graham Temple in the video below and see if you agree with his selections.
There is a strong entry for this tournament, and that looks down to the ease of mobility for players. It’s just down the road from Augusta so players are looking to get the last couple of events in and this is no better start starting point.
These are all each-way backable prices, and first up is CHEZ REAVIE. He finished 29th last week at The Masters and that was a really good performance given the course was weighted towards the longer hitters – Reavie is one of the shorter hitters on tour.
He ranked sixth in driving and 11th in greens in regulations hat week against a much stronger field than he is going to face this week. To finish that high in those statistics at a Major is a sign that his long game is in great working order. There is a slight concern over his putting – Bermuda greens are probably the worst greens he performs on but looking a little deeper through his stats he’s had some good performances on those type of greens. The shorter course will suit, his game looks strong and he looks a really nice price.
Second up is CHARLES HOWELL. He was 46th last week at Augusta, but he was going really well on Saturday and was up to -7 at one stage and creeping into the top 15. But he then weakened that day and finished with a round of 74. He’s coming back to a place he enjoys playing, as he’s a local here in Georgia and a winner here in 2018. He has five top 10 finishes in the last 10 years and I thought he looked another good each-way bet.
Another at a really big price is SCOTT BROWN. He hasn’t done much in five months, but he’s showing signs of life with a 24th-place finish last time out at the Houston Open. Again, that was against a field that was much stronger than he is going to face this week. Like Howell, he enjoys playing at CRM. He’s a local lad from not too far away and in seven appearances he’s had four top 20 finishes. I think he can go well at a price too.
