Paddy launches epic pro-am golf tournament to kick off summer of sport

It's golf... but not as you know it.

Slowly but surely the sporting world is opening back up – and here at Paddy Power we’re leading the way.

Forget your Zoom quizzes, trips to Durham and Euro 96 re-runs, because we’ve got a proper sporting event to get your teeth stuck into.

It’s golf… but not as you know it. The Premier League is coming back, so think of this as an opening ceremony to a mega summer of sport.

Reserve yourself a socially-distanced spot on the sofa this Friday and bunker down for an unmissable day of top-class sport, because we’ve ripped up the rule book (well, sort of, there’s still clubs, a ball and a hole) to create the Paddy Power Golf Shootout – a world-first format stacked with box-office names.

An all-star cast of celebs and pros will put their money where their mouths are – which in case of Piers Morgan should be sizeable – in our behind-closed-doors event at the Centurion Club, Hertfordshire.

Along with TV presenter Piers, other wannabe golfers taking to the course include cricket legend Freddie Flintoff, former footy stars Peter Crouch and Jamie Redknapp and Tottenham and England hero Harry Kane.

They’ll be up against some of the biggest names in golf, including 2019 Open runner-up Tommy Fleetwood, 2018 Ryder Cup-winning captain Thomas Bjorn, Irish golf legend Paul McGinley, Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston and Scottish star Carly Booth.

The event is subject to a rigorous, government-approved Covid-19 testing process, with all participants – and skeleton production crew- tested before being permitted to attend.

They’ll even be an Official Guinness World Records attempt made during Friday’s big event – and we’ve got a very special prize lined up for the overall winner too.

English star Fleetwood, ranked No.10 in the world, said: “We’ve all been waiting for an event like this to showcase the return of golf. There’s some great personalities taking part in the challenges so I know it will be a fun watch for everyone. I’m looking forward to getting back to some competition again.”

Paul McGinley added: “I go into this event with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.

“Excitement about having an excuse to leave the house, trepidation that I could conceivably lose to Piers Morgan. Technically. I’m delighted to be involved in the first-ever Paddy Power Golf Shootout. I just hope I get the call-up again next year.”

You can watch all the action LIVE on Twitter and Paddy’s YouTube channel, with presenter Georgie Bingham taking you through all the action. And here at Paddy Power News we’ll bring you all the funniest moments, the best shots and all the drama – as well as live blogging the tournament throughout the day.
