Shane Lowry: I just can’t stop looking at the trophy – it’s hard to believe

Hopefully it won't scratch his granny's kitchen table

When it comes to the end of this week, that’s when I’ll start processing it all and looking towards the end of the year.

I’ll set out some goals for next year, but right now I’m just trying to enjoy the moment.

For this to be happening to me – I just feel quite lucky.

I can’t stop looking at the trophy. It’s hard to believe – there are names from the 1800s on that.

It’s such an iconic piece of silverware; it’s unbelievable that it’s in my house and my name’s going to be there forever. That can never be taken away from me.

I’m looking forward to going back to Offaly and seeing the people I want to see. Where I’m from there are a couple of golf courses around – but whoever thought there’d be an Open champion going home to Clara?

A long time ago I was lucky enough to watch the county win an All-Ireland and to hear people say this is even more special to them is incredible.

I’m also looking forward to bringing the trophy into my granny’s house and throwing it down on the kitchen table. It’s great.

Just to go into the house and sit there and chat to her is going to be incredible.

Shane is 100/1 to win next year’s USPGA Championship
