There’s been much made of Shinnecock at this year’s US Open. The difficulty of the course is only too evident. You just have to look at the leaderboard to see how it’s making a mockery of some of the best golfers in the world. It’s actually quite refreshing to watch.
But while Rory, Jordan, Sergio, Bubba and a host of other big names have jetted off after missing the cut, the rest are still there, grinding away.
The course would break any man in fairness. It almost had Ian Poulter in tears last night at the Sky cart after he followed up 16 holes of spectacular golf by making a complete haimes of the final two holes.
Today, it was Phil’s turn. Usually one to keep his emotions in check, fan favourite Mickelson just had enough. It’s hard to explain, you just have to watch below.
Wow. I've never seen that before.
Phil Mickelson ran after his putt before it stopped, which is a two stroke penalty.
Really, really odd #USOpen pic.twitter.com/Hu08036qjo

And while we did chuckle at his shuffle, you’ve got to feel sorry for Big Phil. Always next year Phil.
