All-Ireland Group Stage match at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney
Kerry to win by 4-6 points v Monaghan
Kerry get the 2024 All Ireland group stages kicked off this weekend as they play host to Monaghan in Killarney on Saturday night. However, there is a sense of The Kingdom not yet hitting full power in this season’s All-Ireland series, despite clinching a fourth successive Munster title.
They beat Cork by three points in the provincial semi, and took care of Clare by seven, but it should be a closer call against Monaghan. The Oriel County sealed a group stage spot by way of their Allianz League position after being dumped out of the Ulster championship at the first hurdle by Cavan.
Despite Kerry storming to a nine-point win in the league meeting between the pair in February, Monaghan tightened up in the final games of the league campaign, with narrow losses to Tyrone and Mayo.
Saturday 5.00pm: Mayo v Cavan
All Ireland Group Stage match at MacHale Park, Castlebar
Mayo to win by 4-6 points v Cavan
Mayo find themselves in a similar position to Kerry as they look to get their All-Ireland campaign up to top speed having lost the Connacht final to Galway. A five point semi-final win over Roscommon booked a final spot against their old foes and they only lost out by a single point in Salthill.
Cavan are another Ulster side through to the group stages due to league positioning, but they caused problems in the early provincial rounds, scoring three goals against both Monaghan and Tyrone and this will not be a cruise for Mayo.
