Waterford v Clare

TV: GAAGO, Saturday 6pm

I’m expecting another cracker this weekend, it’s all to play for. Waterford’s back are against the wall, this is the last throw of the dice for manager Davy Fitzgerald, the last throw of the dice for a lot of these players actually. They’re really got to go and throw the kitchen sink at Clare.

Will we get the Waterford that brought Limerick down the home straight or will we get the Waterford that were very disappointing against Cork.

I’m thinking we’re going to see the Waterford that brought Limerick down the home straight.

If they can bring that level of performance matched with bringing some key personnel coming back into the team; Austin Gleeson and Patrick Fitzgerald in particular, both Daly’s and we might see Sean O’Brien returning too, I think Davy is really going to freshen up the team and breathe new life into the team.

The game will be a lot closer than many people think. I don’t see Clare winning by seven or eight points. We can’t forget last year’s massacre up in Ennis and this is really Waterford’s last shot at redemption. It’s Davy versus Brian Lohan as well and Davy has never beaten him in a Championship game.

Clare to Win By 1-3 Points

It’s going to be a big ask. If Clare bring to the table what they did against Limerick, they’re going to be a tough nut to crack. I’d give Waterford a good chance but ultimately you’ve got to favour Clare, they’re the form team.

The current four-point handicap margin is too big, Waterford will be within that and this is going to go down to the wire.

Clare might edge it by one to three points.

Mark Rodgers First Goalscorer

The lad I’d be looking at here scored two goals in the first game against Tipperary, Mark Rodgers. I was at the last Waterford game and they looked to me to be overburdened with tactics and sometimes a Davy Fitzgerald team can do that. Hopefully, now these lads can go out and express themselves.

But I’m going to stick with a Clareman for the first goal here, Mark Rodgers, he’s an inside forward with a good eye for goal.
