Premier League football is returning in August but there’s plenty of other sport on, including US Open tennis action from New York at the end of the month.
Here’s Paddy’s guide to the biggest sporting events on the horizon…
After football didn’t come home in the summer at Euro 2020, attention will now turn to the start of the Premier League season, which kicks off on Friday night as the newly-promoted Brentford host Arsenal.
Man United v Leeds and Tottenham v Man City are the other two big games of the weekend.
As for outright bets, City are odds-on to win their fourth title in the last five years after splashing £100m on Jack Grealish – and that’s without the potential addition of Harry Kane…
United, Chelsea and Liverpool are tasty options if you don’t fancy Pep’s side to deliver.
The two week tennis extravaganza gets underway in New York at the end of August. Roger Federer has won the tournament a joint-record five times and the Swiss star is an outsider to make it six.
Novak Djokovic, who is coming off another Wimbledon win this summer, is the favourite to scoop his 21st Grand Slam title.
Hurling Final: August 22

We’ve reached the climax of the intercounty season in both Gaelic Football and Hurling, so we have a couple of fab finals to look forward too! Firstly, in the Football, there is the small matter of the All-Ireland semi-finals to be sorted first.
Dublin welcome Mayo to Croke Park on the Saturday August 14, while Kerry take on old rivals Tyrone on Saturday August 21 as all four counties battle it out to reach the decider. But, Dublin – who are chasing a seven title in-a-row – have recently lost their favourites tag to the men from the Kingdom in the race to win the Sam Maguire Cup.
Over on the Hurling side of the house, and we are left with just two counties left standing. Munster neighbours Cork and Limerick will throw down on Sunday August 22, with the Liam MacCarthy waiting for the victor. The Treaty County are the frontrunners in the betting as they seek a second All-Ireland crown in-a-row and a third in just four seasons. But, don’t count out The Rebels as they go in search of their first All-Ireland victory since 2005.
Ah, more football, lovely. All eyes are on the World Cup in Qatar next year, which takes place in December.
England, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland are all in action twice in September as qualification for the 2022 World Cup ramps up.
Gareth Southgate’s side will be hoping to put their Euro 2020 heartache behind them as England face Andorra and Poland.
