The Formula 1 roadshow heads to Brazil for the last leg of the triple-header in the Americas this weekend.

Interlagos has been a happy hunting ground for Lewis Hamilton over the years – it was the track where he claimed his first world championship – and the Brit has even been made an honorary Brazilian citizen!

Hamilton will be hoping for another strong weekend as he chases down Red Bull driver Sergio Perez in the battle for second place in the drivers’ standings and he can take encouragement from the fact that last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix was Mercedes’ strongest of the season as he finished second behind team-mate George Russell.

The fact it is also a Sprint weekend – the final of the season, thank the lord – means there are even more points up for grabs! I’ve dashed on over to Paddy Power’s odds for the Brazilian Grand Prix and picked out a couple of fancies. Let’s go!

Sprint Race Podium Finish – Charles Leclerc

Ferrari finally look like they’re getting to grips with their 2023 car but, to be fair to the SF-23, it has been strong over one lap for the majority of the season.

The speculation that the Scuderia could take engine penalties some point soon makes the Sprint an attractive betting alternative to Sunday’s Race and the potential for cooler temperatures on Saturday further brings the mini race into play for Charles Leclerc.

The Monegasque has claimed pole at the last two Grands Prix this season and boasts a decent qualifying record at Interlagos so he is expected to end the Sprint Shootout in position towards the front of the grid for the Sprint.

As well as being traditionally strong around this track, Ferrari have been in fine fettle during the Americas triple-header so Leclerc should be able to hold his own over 24 laps to convert a top-three finish.

Outright Betting (Sunday Race) – Lewis Hamilton (E/W)

Lewis Hamilton was Max Verstappen’s principal challenger in the United States and Mexico – and that is a theme set to continue in Brazil.

A combination of Hamilton’s strong record at Interlagos and Mercedes’ gradually improved race performance makes me think it is worth taking the better price for a top-two finish in our Outright Betting instead of simply backing him at odds-on for a Podium Finish.

He finished second last season’s Silver Arrows tractor and delivered one of the best weekends in recent memory when taking the chequered flag in 2021 – one of three Brazilian Grand Prix wins on his illustrious CV.

While Hamilton has only scored one pole position this season, Mercedes should have the pace and downforce to be in the mix in Friday’s Qualifying session to set up their main man for a strong Race on Sunday.
