As we near the halfway point on what has been an engrossing season, Max Verstappen and Red Bull have a firm hand on both the Drivers and Constructors Championship. The famous Silverstone has undergone some layout changes over the years but despite this it is still one of the fastest tracks on the circuit and is a favourite amongst the fans and the drivers.

Looking ahead to the race, Max Verstappen is the one to beat. Verstappen and Red Bull will feel like they have a score to settle here at Silverstone after the drama of last year, which ended with Max in hospital and Lewis Hamilton atop the podium. I doubt a competitor like Verstappen needed any extra incentive when it comes to race day but if he did, there it is.

I can’t really see the battle between Hamilton and Verstappen being as hotly contested this year due to the sheer difference in cars, but you’d be a fool to write off Hamilton completely here at Silverstone. I think he looks a good price for a spot on the podium.

Charles Leclerc has now gone six races without a win. However, more often than not, Leclerc has put the team in an advantageous position on race day by qualifying on Pole. This year Leclerc has qualified six times out of a possible nine races at the front of the grid.

The issue is this has only resulted in two race victories, a very poor conversion rate. Unfortunately for Leclerc I don’t think this weekend will be too different. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Leclerc qualify on pole, but Max Verstappen to continue his dominance and win on Sunday.

Finally, I’ll be picking out a same podium multi using the Points Finish market. I’ll be going with George Russell, Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon, Sebastian Vettel, Valterri Bottas and Lando Norris all to finish in the points.

* An acca of these six selections pays at around 10/1 with Paddy Power. ADD IT TO YOUR BETSLIP HERE.

So far this season Russell has been Mr Consistent. He’s finished in the top five every race so far and bar any mechanical error I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t score points here at Silverstone. He’s my banker in this acca. Alongside him are Alpine team-mates Alonso and Ocon. Their superior straight-line speed amongst the “best of the rest” category has meant they have closed the gap on McLaren in the fight for 4th.

The team’s performance in Canada meant they recorded back-to-back double point finishes for the first time this season, although Alonso won’t need reminding about his missed opportunity. With the speed of the track at Silverstone I think Alpine will perform well again, further closing the gap on McLaren.

Speaking of McLaren, ever since Norris’ podium at Imola it’s been a pretty rough ride. But Lando has a good record here at Silverstone and in his mind a points finish should be the minimum in front of his home crowd.

Bottas and Vettel round off this acca as the final two selections. Bottas has proved to be a very savvy signing by Alpha Romeo, he has been able to regularly pick up points and challenge the top six. Vettel’s season has been less consistent and he is in a car which his partner, Lance Stroll is really struggling. However, what both these drivers have in common is their experience. Bottas will be looking toward the top six here again this week and Vettel will be looking to sneak in the points.
