The thrilling 2022 Formula 1 season continues at pace with the most iconic race of the year. That’s right, we’re set to go racing around the narrow streets of Monaco!
While it’s not exactly the most exciting race on the calendar due to the lack of overtaking action, the Monaco Grand Prix has the glitz and glamour. Qualifying will once again be crucial to the outcome of Sunday’s race but there’ll hopefully be a bit more fun on track as even the traditionally lacklustre Spanish Grand Prix had plenty of thrills and spills last weekend.

Local hero Charles Leclerc is the favourite with Paddy Power to win the Monaco Grand Prix as he’s been the standout driver in qualifying with four poles from the six races so far. The Ferrari driver has suffered plenty of disappointment at his home track over the years, however. The Monegasque cannot catch a break there as he failed to finish in 2018, 2019 and 2020, did not start last year’s race and even crashed Niki Lauda’s classic Ferrari in this month’s Monaco Historic Grand Prix!
Max Verstappen usurped Leclerc as the Drivers’ Championship leader by winning last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix after his title rival was forced to retire due to a loss of power. The Red Bull driver has fond memories of Monaco after climbing onto the top step of the podium at last year’s race.
The Dutchman’s team-mate Sergio Perez has enjoyed a cracking start to the year with a trio of second-place finishes to sit third in the Drivers’ Championship. Can he claim a maiden win in his sophomore season at Red Bull?
Mercedes showed signs of life at the Spanish Grand Prix as George Russell claimed his second podium and Lewis Hamilton stormed through the field to finish sixth after dropping to 19th following a first-lap hit from Haas’ Kevin Magnussen. Monaco was a disaster for the Silver Arrows last season, although Hamilton has won the race three times in his illustrious career.
Poor old Carlos Sainz has endured a difficult campaign to date as team-mate Leclerc hogs the limelight with his stunning drives. A return to Monaco could spark an upturn in form for the Spaniard, however, as he finished second in last year’s race.
