7pm: England 2-0 Senegal
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
3pm: France v Poland
TV: BBC, RTE
The Poles just snuck through the group and at one stage it was coming down to who had the fewest yellow cards. I feel sorry for Robert Lewandowski as he just gets no service whatsoever and they’ve looked very, very flat. He was having to come back into his own half just to get a touch of the ball against Argentina.
Didier Deschamps did the classic thing of changing the whole France team for their last group game when qualified which means they’ll be ready to go. I’m going to go 2-0 to France in this one. My only concern with France is that I think they’ve got a bad game in them somewhere.
If Kylian Mbappe doesn’t fire you’d be worried. I’ve described them as moody. On a good day they’re great but on a bad day the all fall out with each other and everyone’s looking around like, ‘What are you doing,’ but I do think they’ll get through.
7pm: England v Senegal
TV: ITV, RTE
If you remember the furore when England drew with the USA and then look at how some of the other big teams got on and went out, it’s a decent result. England, as we know with the media, if you play well you’re brilliant and if you don’t you’re awful. They’re somewhere in the middle but I fancy them against Senegal.
Sadio Mane’s a big miss but they’ve done well to get through to this stage. They will be very competitive, they’re fit, but I just think England will be too clever, just have too much for them.
What interests me is the team that Gareth Southgate starts with. He might go with Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson but I think they only need one and you can get more forward-looking players in and that will do for Senegal. The other thing is the quality that England have to bring off the bench. I’m going to go 2-0 to England.
