England will punch their ticket to the World Cup last 16 if they avoid a thrashing against Wales this evening.
The Three Lions have four points from two games and can guarantee their status as winners of Group B if they secure victory in the Battle of Britain at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.
England’s route to the World Cup final has already been set and they will face either the winners or runners-up in Group A if they progress to the next round of the competition.
Gareth Southgate will know the potential opponents as the final round of fixtures in that group conclude before Wales v England kicks off.
So who could England face in the World Cup last 16?
If England win Group B they will play the runners-up in Group A on Sunday, December 4 at 19:00 GMT. The tie is scheduled to take place at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
Senegal beat Ecuador to snatch second place in the group and reach the knockout rounds for the first time since 2002.
If England finish second in Group B they will play the Group A winners on Saturday, December 3 at 15:00 GMT. The tie is scheduled to take place at the Khalifa International Stadium in Al Rayyan.
It would mean a meeting with the Netherlands, who strolled to a comfortable victory over Qatar to top Group A with seven points.
