A lot of people think that this might be Lionel Messi’s swansong, and a massive one at that. I’m not so sure. He’s been my favourite player for a long, long time but at PSG I don’t think he’s been tested too much. That means he’s been rested, really, so he’ll be ready.
I think this will end 2-1 to Argentina. I fancy Saudi Arabia to get one here, they’ll scrap hard.

I’ve got Denmark as a dark horse in this World Cup. I like them, I like the way they play, they’ve got some really outstanding players. They get the job done, they don’t fuss around, and the way they handled the Christian Eriksen situation at the Euros was amazing.
They’ll have the neutrals with them so I’ll go 1-0 to the Danes. I’ve been going with a lot of low scores in the first round because that’s the way it always is in major tournaments.

I love Mexico at World Cups. I think we tend to underrate them but I think they’ve got some really good players and what I like about them when they’re representing their country is that they really have a go. I think the Poles are quite an ordinary team, other than Robert Lewandowski.
I’m going to go for a 0-0. This might be one to watch from behind the settee, so you know it’ll be 3-3 now!
France v Australia

Australia will just be delighted to be there. They’re athletic, very similar to USA these guys. They’ve got some experienced Premier League boys as well but I think France will win this 2-0. France have lots of injuries but they’ve got such a deep squad and fantastic experience at this level.
This France remind me of the Netherlands sides of old who looked really, really good but then they’ll just bomb out for no apparent reason. That’s the kind of World Cup I think they’ll have but I expect them to win this.
