For me this is going to be Lionel Messi’s tournament. I think he had a bit of a slow start at PSG but seems to be really enjoying his football again and, of course, he’s scoring loads of goals. I think this is going to be his time to shine.
With this Argentina side built around him, he’s going to score the majority of the goals that will take them to the final. When you’re looking for your pick for a Golden Boot winner you have to go with someone playing in a team that’s going to go far and you’re looking for the teams that will make it to at least the semi-final.
With my two being Argentina and France to get to there, you’re going to have to choose between France’s Kylian Mbappe or Messi and I’ve gone with Messi because he’ll be leading the line with the team built around him and I see him leading his side to World Cup glory.
I think Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus has a chance of being among the reckoning, he certainly should be as Brazil’s frontman. Harry Kane, of course, for England will be among the goals too and he’ll almost certainly be England’s top goalscorer, but I’ve already picked Messi as my winner for the Golden Boot and I think France’s Mbappe is going to be in and around there too.

All of France’s attacks are going to be through him and when it’s 0-0 or 1-1 or 2-2 in a game we’re going to see the other French players providing him with even more passes as they try and create goal-scoring opportunities.
He’s in great form too this season and he’s got a good head on his shoulders – on the field of play anyway. He’s just a powerhouse and still so young. Every season he’s adding to his game and getting more experience, especially in the Champions League. With my picks for the final being Argentina and France I think both Mbappe and Messi are going to be favourites to win the Golden Boot.
You have to look around the other teams too. For example, Germany, who is going to be the main goal-scoring threat for them? They look a bit short going into the tournament don’t they?
Will Romelu Lukaku’s Belgium go far? If he’s fit he must surely be in with a chance, particularly as Paddy are paying out on the Top 5 Goalscorers on an each-way basis.
You look at Belgium’s group and you can certainly see the Inter man netting a few there and if he gets five or six goals in his first four matches, I’m assuming they’ll qualify for the Last 16. That should put him in with a shout of landing the trophy. He’s my best pick for the rest of the teams in the World Cup.
