Alternative handicap: Celtic -1
Going into Celtic’s Sunday clash with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, everything points to a big away victory at Rugby Park.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have won 14 matches this season across all competitions, with just one of these coming by a single goal. They continued that sequence this week with spectacular wins over Aberdeen in the League Cup (6-0) and RB Leipzig (3-1) in the Champions League.
Killie, meanwhile, will take heart from their recent 1-0 win over Rangers heading into this match, but without crucial centre-back Stuart Findlay, there is every chance they suffer a defeat similar in magnitude to the 4-0 loss they received at Celtic Park on August 4.
Over 2.5 goals
Backing goals in Celtic matches this season has been almost a sure thing, with only four of their 17 games across all competitions failing to yield at least three strikes.
The absence of Kilmarnock defender Findlay should significantly help the Hoops find the net in this one, and given they have struck at least three goals themselves in three of their last four matches, it may well be inconsequential whether the hosts are good enough to get on the scoresheet themselves.
Celtic also hit five at Rugby Park in May, and five of the last six matches between these sides in the league have seen at least three strikes.
Liam Donnelly shown a card
Liam Donnelly has received cards in two matches in the Scottish Premiership this season. Yet, the Northern Irish defensive midfielder habitually finds his way into the referee’s notebook when tasked with stopping Celtic.
He has faced the Hoops 13 times in his league career and has emerged with a caution on an astonishing seven occasions. He has been booked in his last three league matches against the Parkhead club.
Benched last weekend, he should be brought into the starting XI precisely to provide more steel so a caution would not end the world.
Kilmarnock to receive the most cards
Derek McInnes will likely set Kilmarnock up to be dogged and competitive in this match, regardless of whether it means that his side picks up a big card count.
This will be the seventh meeting between these clubs since the beginning of last season. In five of the six previous games, Killie received more cards, while the other ended in a 2-2 draw.
Overall, the home side has been relatively clean this season when picking up cards, yet their total of 27 is still more than twice as many as the 13 Celtic have picked up.
Celtic 7+ corners
Celtic tend to post a big corner count under Brendan Rodgers, with their average of 9.4 wins per game this season, by some distance, the biggest tally of any club in the league. In comparison, Hearts are next best with just 6.67.
Impressively, Celtic are just as prolific at winning corners on the road as they are at home, averaging precisely the same number when playing away from home.
Kilmarnock have one of the worst records in the league when conceding corners at home, giving up precisely 5 per game.
Celtic, meanwhile, are on a five-match Premiership streak of winning at least seven corners in each game.
