Liverpool to win
It’s hard to back against Liverpool at the moment, and against an inconsistent Tottenham team, Arne Slot’s side look a good price to continue their excellent form.
The Reds were unfortunate to be held 2-2 at home to Fulham last weekend, but that was just the fourth occasion this season they have failed to pick up a victory. Indeed, their response was a 2-1 League Cup win over Southampton, with a heavily rotated team, resting key players for this potentially awkward trip.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou might have eased the pressure on himself with wins over Southampton and Manchester United, but Liverpool are a big step up, and likely a bridge too far for a team that remains too soft at the back.
Mohamed Salah to have 3+ shots
Mohamed Salah remains the heartbeat of Liverpool’s attack, and he almost invariably has at least three shots in each game, in which he starts.
He has hit this figure in nine of his last 11 fixtures for the Reds, with exceptions in the Champions League clash against Real Madrid and the subsequent league fixture against defending champions Manchester City.
Since then, he’s managed at least four shots in each game he’s played. Backing him to hit the target is a little risky right now, given he’s failed to do so in four of his last five matches from open play, yet his overall shot tally remains high.
James Maddison to have 1+ shots on target
James Maddison is third for shots on target for Tottenham in the Premier League this season behind Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min both on 15. On a per-90 minute basis his 1.32 only trails the South Korean, who hits 1.46, yet the No.10 offers a more attractive price.
Often used in wide areas this season, he’s been moved inside in the past couple of games, increasing the possibility of him getting a sight at goal.
Having scored twice against Southampton last weekend and twice against Man City last month, don’t expect him to be shy about having a go. Last season, he had at least one shot on target in both fixtures he played against Liverpool.
Dejan Kulusevski to be fouled 1+ times
Dejan Kulusevski has quietly emerged as one of Tottenham’s most impressive players this season, with the Sweden international becoming an ace foul-winner for Postecoglou’s side.
No one has earned more Premier League fouls for Spurs this season than the 24-year-old, who has been doing so with terrific regularity, since the end of September.
Across his last 16 starts for club and country, he’s picked up at least one foul on 15 occasions – at 94% of matches he has played in.
With Andy Robertson back from a ban, but struggling for form, Kostas Tsimikas may get a rare start for Liverpool, with the Greek giving away 1.15 fouls per 90.
Over 4.5 cards
Neither Tottenham nor Liverpool are particularly dirty teams, with both sitting towards the top of the disciplinary table and both earning 35 cards so far this season, yet this still works out at an average of 4.53 per game combined.
What’s more, referee Sam Barratt has been handed the whistle for this match, with the official prolific for giving out cards. Across his 12 appearances in all competitions this season, he’s awarded at least five on eight occasions and has only dipped below four once.
He was in charge of Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton last month, when he booked four of Slot’s players. Only once this season have the Reds seen more cards.
