The Premier League returns after a busy mid-week of European action. The international break is coming into view now, so this will be the last we see of some decent football—oops, sorry, eh, the domestic leagues—until October 19th.
Our footie tipster, Sam Farley, has rolled up his sleeves, dived head-first into each game, and picked out a punt.

Arsenal v Southampton – Arsenal to win to nil
The Gunners come into this on the back of a defensive masterclass against Paris St-Germain in the Champions League. With Martin Odegaard out injured they’ve tweaked their style and are happy to rely on their excellent defence to see them through.
They let PSG have 65% of possession midweek but denied the Parisians high-quality shooting opportunities, with just two of their 10 shots ending up on target.
Here they will face the Premier League’s lowest-scoring team; Southampton have scored just three Premier League goals this season and should struggle to find the back of the net against an Arsenal team flying high.
Brentford v Wolves – Both teams to score: Yes
Brentford won on the opening weekend of the season but since then they’ve really struggled with just one victory over their last five. What’s concerning is that the opposition have scored in every single one of their Premier League games so far, with Brentford then setting themselves a big task of having to outscore the other team.
Wolves have scored in all but one game this season. Arsenal kept them scoreless on the season’s opening weekend, but they’ve conceded a goal in every league game so far; indeed, they’ve been breached at least twice in five of their six league games so far, and their total of 16 goals conceded is the highest in the Premier League.
Both teams to score has landed in 83.3% of both Wolves and Brentford’s games this season and should do so again.
Man City v Fulham – Man City -1
The season-ending injury of Rodri is a major headache for Pep Guardiola, with the Spanish midfielder being the most important cog in the Man City machine. While Pep tries to figure out the best way to move forward without the 28-year-old, there might be a temptation to bet against City, but don’t, at least not at the Etihad.
When it comes to playing at home, no team in the Premier League is so rampant as City. We know about their quality, but what’s really impressive is how dominant they are on their home turf, a trend that has been going on for multiple seasons now. It’s been over 20 months since they last lost at home, and in just three games there this season, they’ve scored eight goals, the highest total in the Premier League.
West Ham v Ipswich Town – Both teams to score: Yes
We should see plenty of goals at the London Stadium on Saturday, with West Ham hosting Ipswich. Only a point separates them in the table, and they’ve had similar records so far, with 10 goals conceded each and the Hammers scoring one more goal with six. Since their opening-day defeat to Liverpool, we’ve seen Ipswich score and concede in four games, with a 0-0 draw against Brighton being the exception.
West Ham have seen Both teams to score landing in 66.7% of their games, but crucially, they’ve conceded plenty of goals at home, with nine goals shipped at the London Stadium in just three games.
Ipswich aren’t afraid to try and play their progressive brand of football and won’t come into this fearing the Hammers, which should translate to an open game.
Leicester City v Bournemouth – Bournemouth to win
Bournemouth sit 11th in the Premier League table heading into the weekend, six spots ahead of 17th-placed Leicester, but the gap should be larger. The Cherries have been really impressive over the opening six games of the season and are unlucky to have just two goals to their name.
When you look at the xG table, you can see that Bournemouth have scored nearly four goals fewer than expected this season. They’ve also conceded nearly a goal more than you’d have expected from the data. That’s put them in something of a false position, and they’re better than the table might portray.
A strong 3-1 win over Southampton on Monday night showed what they’re capable of in front of goal, and they’ll carry that confidence into this game with Leicester, who yet they have yet to pick up a win.
