Ipswich v Aston Villa betting tips

Aston Villa and over 2.5 goals
Jhon Duran anytime goalscorer
Amadou Onana to have 1+ shots on target

WHEN: Sunday, September 29th, 14:00
WHERE: Portman Road, Ipswich
TV: Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Premier League

Aston Villa and over 2.5 goals

Aston Villa have won four of their opening five games and currently sit one point off the top of the Premier League table, but they haven’t always looked convincing at this early stage of the season.

Villa have conceded the first goal in three of their opening five games, coming from a goal down to beat Wolves last weekend and from two goals down to beat Everton two weeks previously.

They have conceded in each of their five league games to date, and their games have seen more goals than most teams in the Premier League this season. Only games involving Manchester City (18 goals) and basement clubs Everton and Wolves (19 goals each) have seen more goals than the 17 goals Aston Villa have been involved in this season.

Villa’s 0-2 defeat at home to Arsenal was the only time so far that a league game involving Aston Villa saw two goals or fewer. To date, each of Villa’s two away games have finished 2-1.

On the other hand, Ipswich find themselves at the other end of the entertainment spectrum, with only one of their five games to date seeing three goals or more.

Kieran McKenna’s side have drawn three games on the spin and are still chasing their first league win of the season. They will surely wish to clinch it in front of their own fans on Sunday and should take the game to Villa.

They may even take the lead, given Villa’s recent history of falling behind, but the travelling side should ultimately have too much class and should win a relatively high-scoring affair.

Jhon Duran anytime goalscorer

Jhon Duran is establishing himself as a genuine super-sub in the early days of the season. The Colombian forward has scored four times in the opening five games of the season but has yet to start a league game this season, with all of his goals coming from the bench.

Duran didn’t score in his only Champions League appearance of the season but was desperately unlucky to see a fine finish ruled out for a handball in the build-up. He earned his first start of the season during Tuesday’s League Cup win over Wycombe and also found the net, courtesy of an 85th-minute penalty.

The Colombian forward is clearly on a hot streak at present and may prove too hot to handle for an Ipswich defence that has managed just one league clean sheet to date, including none at home.

He has scored in each of Villa’s two away games to date, coming off the bench to make the difference in their season opener against West Ham before giving Villa a two-goal cushion at Leicester before the international break.

He may well continue his goalscoring streak here.

Amadou Onana to have 1+ shots on target

Villa did not buy Amadou Onana for his goalscoring exploits, but goals have been a welcome unexpected benefit from the Belgian midfielder. Onana has scored three goals in his first seven appearances for Villa, already matching his highest tally in any season since he became a professional footballer.

He has two league goals to his name, also scoring in each of Villa’s two away league games to date.

The Belgian appears comfortable playing away from home, with his other goal this season coming in the 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League. He averages 1.2 shots per game in the league this season, the fifth-highest of any Villa player.

The Villa midfielder has an excellent chance of matching that average on Sunday against an Ipswich side that has faced around 15 shots per game so far this season. By extension, he is decent value to find the target at least once.
