Dundee United +2

Dundee United will not fear Rangers’ visit to Tannadice in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, having started the season positively. The newly promoted side are undefeated in their first four league matches of the season and are coming off a particularly impressive 1-0 win away to Hearts prior to the international break.

Rangers, meanwhile, have not hit the standards expected of them. Their seven competitive fixtures have yielded only three victories, all of which have come at home and only two of which have come by a margin greater than a single goal.

The Gers have yet to taste success on the road, and even a narrow success here would be more than satisfactory for Philippe Clement’s side.

Cyriel Dessers to anytime goalscorer

While many Rangers players are struggling with their form, striker Cyriel Dessers is a welcome exception. Despite being a maligned figure, he has managed to strike three times in four Premiership outings.

The Nigeria international is overwhelmingly Rangers’ greatest goal threat, with 12 shots and seven on target. No one among his colleagues comes close to these figures.

With Danilo having suffered another significant injury setback, expect Dessers to get plenty of chances to prove his mettle again here.

Both teams to score

Dundee United have managed to find the net in each of their four Premiership games to date, and it is unlikely that run will end against Rangers on Sunday. Jim Goodwin’s side have looked accomplished goal forwards and will fancy their chances of netting against a defence that has been unconvincing in the early weeks of the campaign.

Indeed, the Gers have kept only two clean sheets in their last six matches overall and are coming off a 3-0 defeat against Celtic on the road. With confidence low, they are likely to allow the hosts at least one goal.

5 or more cards

Dundee United have received 10 cards at a rate of 2.5 per 90 so far this season, while Rangers are just a little shy of that figure, having had nine cards brandished their way.

Referee Don Robertson, meanwhile, has been strict in the matches he has overseen, particularly in competitive games as is likely to be the case on Sunday.

In his last two Premiership fixtures, he dished out seven cards during Dundee against Hearts and then six when Dundee United hosted St Johnstone three weeks ago.

The official is also under extra scrutiny after referee chief Willie Collum publicly acknowledged making an error in Celtic’s win over Kilmarnock on the opening day of the season. If this results in him following the letter of the law, it will likely mean a more hard-line approach.

10 or more corners

Rangers have been involved in two away matches with high corner counts this season, with these two encounters resulting in 13.0 corners per game on average. Both have seen over 10.5. Philippe Clement’s side are winning 5.50 per game and should be able to increase this pace given that Dundee United have given up at least five corners in each of the home matches they have played.

The Tangerines have not been particularly strong at winning these situations this season, but even if they claim their season average of four, that will be enough to tip the corner count into double figures.
