Premier League Relegation: Odds, fixtures and table as teams battle to avoid the drop

Who will stay up?

Sheffield United

The battle to avoid relegation in the Premier League is tense with every point crucial between now and the final game in May.

Seven points is the difference between the bottom of the table and survival currently as several teams fight to retain their place in the top flight.

Nobody is safe and with the Premier League threatening further points deductions for teams that failed to comply with financial fair play rules, there could be even more twists and turns ahead.

Everton are just outside the drop zone in 17th place after being hit with a 10-point deduction earlier on in the campaign. They are level on points with Luton in 18th who have a game in hand.

Seven points separate them and Burnley in 19th and Sheffield United who are rock bottom. Both promoted sides face a huge task if they are to climb to safety.

Premier League relegation battle

Sheffield United

Newly promoted Sheffield United have long been tipped to go straight back down to the Championship. Poor investment hasn’t helped them compete and they currently sit bottom of the table.

The financial gains of being promoted were crucial for the club, but they have never really shown Premier League quality.

Their three victories have come at home to Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as a recent away win against fellow strugglers Luton.

Also one of the newly-promoted sides, many people tipped Burnley to succeed in the Premier League under Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany.

They have also struggled to cope with the qualities other sides possess and their insistence on playing attractive football has seen them come unstuck more than once.

Two of their three wins have come against fellow strugglers Sheffield United and Luton as well as a shock win away at Fulham.

Given many people wrote them off, Luton have pulled off some incredible results since making their debut in the Premier League.

Their biggest win came against Newcastle, but they took Arsenal to the wire in a dramatic game they narrowly lost 4-3.

The Hatters recently beat Brighton 4-0 which has provided a boost in their fight for survival.

Yet again Everton find themselves in a relegation battle. Years of financial mismanagement have seen the team slowly lose quality players who they are unable to replace.

Earlier this season, they were hit with a 10-point deduction for breaking the Premier League’s financial rules which has left them in a clear battle for safety.

They have won eight games though, which without the deduction would put them above Bournemouth in 12th.
